Cloud computing has more focus on providing computing services on the internet platform. However, operating systems are an integral part of the cloud computing platform. There are three service models in cloud computing platform like software as a service, platform as a service, and infrastructure as a service. The operating systems are part of these services to work as an interface and support services on an internet platform [1]. Further, operating systems are created with the help of virtualization process in cloud platforms. The cloud computing platform offers to use the same resources from different locations without the use of physical machines [2]. Hence, operating systems are accessed through virtual platforms on cloud computing platforms. The os present on cloud environment is simple and does not bring any physical os complications. The cloud OS runs on a web browser and provides access to different applications to the users in the process of a light-end task [3]. As compared with the traditional system, it works simply and completes all the processes without any interruption. There are several other services currently, computing is focusing on. Some examples are multi and hybrid cloud solutions, backup and disaster recovery, data containers, AI platforms, service mash and cloud security [4]. Hence, the role of cloud OS is important as it helps to run services properly in cloud environments.

Why is RTOS important for IoT?

Real-Time Operating System is implemented in the real-time system to manage hardware resources and host applications. However, they are used in the Internet of Things also. The traditional operating systems do not support IoT devices due to memory issues [5]. Hence, RTOS is used in IoT systems because they are faster and has consistency over traditional systems. Further, IoT devices have complex connections that cannot be handled by Windows or Linux OS. The real-time systems are helpful because they are applicable in systems that have time constraints [6]. Hence, RTOS is perfect for IoT systems and their components. The purpose of the OS is to provide resources to the system effectively. RTOS is important for IoT devices and gives the support of services and resources to the Internet of Things. While IoT works in real-time and takes more memory, this memory management could be easily done with the help of RTOS.

How does the AI operation system differ from the normal OS in features and applications?

It is first important to understand the term ‘operating system.’ The OS is a mechanism that offers software, hardware and resources to the users using computer systems. All the application and system programs run through operating system support in the computers. Hence, the operating system works as a layer between users and computer applications or features. Similarly, AI integrated operating system provides an interface on the computer and end-user through intelligent systems. The purpose of AI-based OS is to provide resource capabilities faster and without any issues faced in the traditional system.

The normal operating system has the following features and applications through which support for services are offered on computers.

  1. The operating system offers program execution to the computer system. For example, clicking on a program for word document is offered by the help of operating system processes. Furthermore, programs are useful feature so that users could do something useful as well as accessed through the graphical user interface and command-line arguments [7]. Hence, the normal operating system provides a program execution feature to the users.
  2. The management of files is the second feature of the normal operating system. Whenever the user makes a file, OS will keep a record of them, and users could work on such files easily. Additionally, OS provides different options for files such as copy, move, paste, delete as well as a search box for file, folder and program search quickly [7]. Hence, file management is the second feature of normal OS for users.
  3. Internet connectivity is the third feature through which users could run the browser most simply.
  4. Some other features include memory management, I/O functions, resource allocation, key navigation, and disk access.
  5. The operating systems are used in different applications such as IoT system, cloud computing, and AI.

While, Artificial Intelligence is another concept that could have a formal definition, a system which highly intelligent and performs human functions through emotional understanding. It is completely different from the normal OS and implements intelligent machine concept for providing resources. For example, FactoryOS is a cloud-based AI-operating system which offers manufacturing process by making decisions on printing orientation, support structure, and plate combination [8]. Hence, it concludes that the AI-based operating system has its own capabilities for managing computer resources automatically.

Comment on Block-chain as an Operating System.

Blockchain is a technology which provides tamper-resistant digital ledgers in distributed architecture as well as without a central authority over the system [9]. The operating system’s concept has been implemented to the original blockchain technology. Further, in this technology, the transactions for an organisation could be shared with other people in a shared network area capability. The ledgers are arranged in a group of blocks, and whenever new transaction appears, it gets linked in the system. Hence, the working of blockchain technology is quite simple to understand. Overledger is an OS implemented in the blockchain and offers a platform so that applications can be used without any complexities such as blockchain integration, OP codes, and messaging formats [10]. For example, the layered structure keeps all the complex issues of blockchain away from the current blockchain added for transactions. Hence, Blockchain works as a normal operating system by offering a user an interface to use applications. Therefore, blockchain indirectly works as an operating system for the shared community as the normal operating system offers an interface between hardware and software resources effectively.

Similarly, Blockchain could use these concepts for extending interoperability for different services offered to the users. However, it raises different complexities for Blockchain and therefore not recommended to implement very often. These complexities include overhead, reduction in transaction security issues, and connection issues [10].
