Hello Alina,

I liked your choice for Kolcaba’s Comfort Theory since it has been fundamental in guiding nursing practice towards holistic nursing by focusing on healing the entire person. A holistic nurse is expected to address the patient’s physical and psychological needs for them to attain comfort and recover quickly (Boudiab & Kolcaba, 2015). I often apply Kolcaba’s Comfort Theory while providing care to my patients by administering adequate pain relievers and maintaining them in positions that may relieve their pain.

Hi Karen,

I enjoyed reading your post. I agree that middle range theories are used more frequently in providing frameworks for investigations. Concerning the end of life, the Peaceful End of Life Theory established by Shirley Moore and Cornelia Ruland in 1998 guides giving care to patients that are terminally ill (Higgins & Hansen, 2013). The theory indicates that among the outcomes of indicators of Peaceful End of Life theory include; experiencing comfort, not being in pain, being at peace, experiencing respect and dignity, and being close to significant others.

Hi Loreto,

Thanks for sharing your post with the class. I agree that most theories are applicable in this 21st century, including Henderson’s Need Theory. Henderson’s Need Theory elaborates the need to enhance the patient’s independence to enable them to recover quickly (Ahtisham & Jacoline, 2015). Nurses are required to emphasize health promotion and prevention, as well as the need to cure diseases. They also have the responsibility of assessing patient’s needs, helping patients meet their needs, and facilitating an environment that can enable the patient to perform their activities unaided.

Hello Katrina,

I liked your choice of Patricia Benner’s Skill Acquisition in Nursing since it is critical in developing one’s career from being a novice to an expert. This model of skill acquisition is under high middle-range theories, and it identifies stages of skill development using the Dreyfus Model. Skill development in nursing is a progressive and long process, and nurses can develop skills of involvement by engaging and learning from different situations with patients and their families (Brykcznski, 2013). I categorize myself as a competent nurse since I can quickly recognize the nature and patterns of clinical situations compared to my peers who are advanced beginners.
