Seeking for internship opportunity
Respected Prof. Todd Hyster
I, Stephen Browne am a 2nd-year undergraduate(UG) pursuing 3-year Bachelors of Science Chemistry Honours in St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi, India which is ranked among the best colleges of India for pursuing undergraduate studies in Science.
I am a highly motivated individual looking for opportunities to learn more about Science, specifically in Chemistry to broaden my horizon so that I can equip myself with the best abilities to help in the advancement of science and our society. I got to know about the quality of research of the Chemistry Department of Princeton University through several research papers that are published by your institute. And while going through the website your research interest in organocatalysis and transition metal catalysis caught my attention as I was studying transition metal complexes as catalysts. I was studying and reading on the need for a sustainable resource of energy and discovered how catalysts made from transition metals can be used for water splitting and storing energy in the form of fuel which is H2 and oxidant O2. Then I went through proton reduction electrocatalysis and was astonished to see the results on how nickel complexes act as stable homogenous catalysts containing metal-carbon bonds, which lead me to your research work on Ni(II)- and Co(III)-catalyzed C–H activation. I understood the need for working on first-row transition metal to act as catalysts as they are abundant, inexpensive, and less toxic. Also, your work on enzyme-controlled nitrogen-atom transfer was ground-breaking for developing new C-N bonds. I had so many questions of my own and would love to interact with you to gain in-depth knowledge on the subject. I know the challenges faced currently in this field and need for extensive research which will help in our society because of its varied applications and would like to learn from you regarding this study.
My interest in Chemistry started from an early and seeing the astronomical number of carbon compounds around me and it inspired me to pursue research in Chemistry, I would love to contribute and pursue research in this field so that i can generate new concepts for the betterment of our society. I understand there is a lot to learn for me at this stage and would appreciate it if you could help me and guide me so that I can strive forward to pursue my passion for Chemistry.
Therefore I am writing to seek an opportunity to learn from you as an intern or just if you could guide me on the path to becoming a responsible and observant researcher in the field of Sciences. Hope you consider my application I will be highly obliged. I have also attached my CV below.
