Michelle Obama’s Personality
Michelle was born on the 17th of January 1964. She went to Princeton University graduating in the year 1985 after which in 1988 she went to Harvard school of law. Michelle got a job at Chicago law firm after her graduation. She was formerly the first lady married to the 44th president of the United States of America, Barack Obama. Previously before being the first lady; she worked as a lawyer, Chicago administrator, and a community worker outreach. The unique mix of accomplishment and talents Michelle possesses has made her a role model because of the inspiration and legacy she has left behind. Her personal life makes it possible to track the turning points of the American dream and the world as a whole. The short paper intends to discuss the personalities of the former first lady Michelle Obama.
To begin with, Michelle is a strong character. It is evident that she was a lady with a strong personality when she stated that if her future depended on a standardized challenge, it would be impossible to get to her present position (Knuckey & Kim, 2016). She could actively participate in the fighting of social issues regardless of how bad they could look. She was frank and ready to condemn the unfriendly facts faced by the minorities. For instance, she could never shy off when calling out lascivious behavior’s that included sexist comments by some other politicians. She mentors me through this admirable personality that has made her who she is today (Sangka, 2017).
Next, she is a lady with self-confidence. From one of her speech, she states that one of the lessons she has learned when growing up was to stay true to herself and never to let what other people say to distract her from the desired goals. She has demonstrated her self confidence in various ways. For instance, championing courage and self-esteem for women and uplifting DNC inauguration speeches (Sangka, 2017). Michelle never shies off from standing up for what she believes. Her example shows that everyone is important and possesses a voice that can change the world. It is evident in the 2015 commencement speech, where she told the black students in one of the American university to remain intense and persistent. She is a lady that stands up for what she believes in regardless of the opposing views, thus making her a leader and an inspiration. She inspires me to stand for what I believe in and thus building a sense of purpose at the tough times.
Moreover, she is a powerful speaker. It is evident from her speeches that she has a way of holding the interest and attention of her listeners. She amazingly has a way that makes people feel to be part of something big by sharing and relating her own experience to what she says. She gave persuasive speeches, although she was black. Some of these inspirational speeches were the 2012 DNC speech and commentary at Maya Angelou’s Memorial Service. The addresses are evidence of the leadership qualities that enhance communication to people, and it is through this that I got inspired (Knuckey & Kim, 2016). The powerful statements by Michelle have positively challenged me to see the essence of learning communication skills that will enhance my capability to address people.
Besides, Michelle is also compassionate. She portrays the fact that she is sympathetic to people from all parts of life. She stated that people must fight on behalf of the world because it does not move by simple belief, unlike people who do (Gleibs, Hendricks & Kurz, 2018).
. When Michelle was practicing law, she fought against injustices in her work at Chicago city hall where she could address social issues in the community before she became the first lady. Later, she established the Chicago chapter of public allies and national network to support youths for a career in the civil service. I learn from her that leadership is not only having excellent business skills but also empathizing and having the compassion to build a robust organizational relationship. Empathy is one’s ticket to people heart, and it enables one to earn trust and respect for any influential and inspiring leader (Hummer, 2017).
In conclusion, Michelle Obamas is a lady with personalities like compassion, excellent speaking skills, strength, and self-confidence. She has proved to be capable of bringing people together regardless of their color, sex, or social standing. It is through her incredible life and interaction with people from all races that I learn the essence of opening up my purpose in life and living it every day. She is thus a role model, an inspiration, and a real-life icon that I would like to emulate to build on my identity.
