Arts refers to the expression of personal as well cultural values in the examination of the relationship of humanity to crucial values, events and objects. Artists reveal values of the human culture besides being the most the human activity that is most fundamental as opposed to other humanities that examine and reflect on the values. Through the in-depth examination of the artistic media, learners are able to gain a genre-based approach in the understanding of the relationship between arts and human values. The framework for a careful analysis is based on the form, subject matters and the themes therein the work of art for instance poems that deepen the understanding of human feelings. The concept of creating art from variety of genres entails the generation of important aspects from an origin piece of that particular genre. Art creation involve a lot of creativity, innovativeness and exhibition of unique artistic prowess.
In accordance to the specification of this assignment, I drew my inspiration from a piece of poetry titled “ I, Too” and the composer of this particular poem is Langston Hughes. the poem was written in the year March 1925 and was later reprinted in Hughes initial poetry volume in 1926. The poem originates from Harlem, New York.
Langston Hughes poem “ I, Too” highlights the racism experienced by a black man in the american society. the subject in the poem, who happens to be a white man, denies the persona, a black man, a seat on the table. The denial of a seat has been used metaphorical and literally as well to indicate the opportunities which the black man gets hinderances to achieve. The black man however affirms himself that he is part of the american society just like his white counterparts and sooner than later, the whole society will have no option but to acknowledge the strength of the black people as well as identify that all human being have the same capabilities regardless of the skin color and origin.
My creative poem is titled “Me, Too” and it potrays the discrimination in the employment sector within the country, that mostly favor individuals on the basis of who know who and who has how much. The persona who is a poor young man addresses his boss, a rich man, telling him that in future both their kids will attend the same schools, have the same opportunities in job recruitment and even hold logical conversations together without the limitation brought about by the economic constraints and discriminations.
A comparison of the two poems reveal a significant similarity in terms of thematic concern. Both poems advocate for equality in the society for both the minority groups and the majority groups. Hughes poem “I, Too” advocates for the equality of the minority black americans while the poem “Me, Too” advocates for the equality of the poor and economically challenged individual in the employment arena just likr the richer and economically stable counterparts. However, the two poems differ in that, Hughes’ poem advocate for particularly the end of inequalities brought about by racism which is not the case with the poem “Me, Too” that seeks to alleviate inequality brought about by economic stratification in the society. the wide use of symbolism in both of the poems puts the readers to task, by enabling them to critically analyze the message the poet puts across. For example, in the poem “ I, Too” hughes uses the word kitchen to symbolize the inequities experienced by the black American and not merely a room in the house used for the purposes of cooking.
