First World War

How did World War I affect the lives, hopes, and dreams of many?

The First World War was a great war that affected all nations globally, leading to various damages. The war which began in 1914 to 1918 was a qualitatively new event in the history of mankind (Shkarubo, 3251). During the war, thousands of soldiers and citizens of countries involved lost their lives. Besides, the most affected persons were the youths since they fought for their nations’ victory in large numbers. Relatives and parents to these soldiers were greatly impacted by the death of their sons, therefore having no hopes in life anymore.

Moreover, youths are the future face of every county, hence their deaths also affected Germany, France, and all states involved economically. The defeats during World War I killed the belief of citizens and soldiers on their traditions and monarchy, leading to a life of no hope in the government even after the war. Paul, one of the youths who fought during the war did not get a chance to live his dreams because of his country’s preparations for war (Great books, 9:49-9:57). Paul had to leave his dreams and join the army so that he could defend Germany in the war. World War I was indeed a great war that killed the hopes, dreams, and sons of many globally.

How might my outlook on life have shifted if I were a soldier during World War I?

Being a soldier during the First World War, my hopes and dreams in life would have been completely shattered. I would live and grow with disbelief in not only myself but also the government. Besides, during this war, Paul lost his childhood friend and best friend who were seriously injured (Great books, 6:44-7:01).  As a soldier, I would have fought hard protecting my family and close friends other than defending the country. Besides, I would have lost all hopes in the nation and the political leaders.

Moreover, the Great War could have killed my goals in life, since youths were forced into joining the army. After reaching a certain age, boys were had to be trained as soldiers in preparation for the war. The nations’ economy was affected and all opportunities of being employed destroyed. Besides, my belief in traditions could vanish due to the losses experienced. Finally, the war could make me more courageous to face any situation in life because of the deaths.
