Topic, Position, Audience, and Goal

Topic

My topic is whether e-cigarette should be used as a therapy for people who wish to Quit nicotine addiction.

Position

E-cigarettes should not be used as therapies for people who wish to quit nicotine addiction.

Audience

The audience for this essay are youth and adults with nicotine addiction and also Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Department. There has been a developed norm that e-cigarette therapy is less harmful and can serve well in keeping the cigarette sensation to people who want to quit the habit. However, the effects of e-cigarette might present significant harm to brain and liver cells and culturing new addiction habits.  Since there has been a substantial investment in research to lower the population under nicotine addiction, US opted to use an e-cigarette to create a smoking sensation to addicts to reduce withdrawal symptoms. More so, youths and non-addict perceive e-vapor as just smoke with no effect on health.

Nevertheless, the adverse effects of the prescription and development of new habits have not been well addressed and emphasized. The core value and belief I share with the audience is that the sensation of a cigarette can gradually help an addict quit. Much has not been invested in considering secondary health issues arising from the prescription.

Goal

This paper aims to persuade the SAMHSA department, nicotine-addicted adults, youth, and non-smokers that e-cigarette prescriptions associated health issues exceed the benefits and, thus, need to be avoided.

Supporting Points

  1. E-cigarette nicotine is readily absorbed in the blood, which actively stimulates the adrenal gland to release epinephrine, causing high blood pressure.
  2. Active nicotine rewards the brain for generating chemical messenger, dopamine that increases the addiction behavior, which significantly elevates health risks.
  3. E-cigarettes contain flavors additives of chromium that may burn bronchiole cells and possibly leading to breathing problems and lung cancer.

National Institute on Drug Abuse is an informational article generated by the National Institute of Drug Abuse. It describes nicotine vaping, formulation of vaping devices, vaping among teens, effects of vaping to the brain, and other secondary effects of vaping such as the burning of liver cells and an increase in nicotine addiction. The article also illustrates previous prescriptions that point to less harm associated with e-cigarette than a combustible cigarette. This source supports my point that e-cigarette results in secondary health issues such as an increase in blood pressure, breathing problems, and an increase in nicotine addiction.
