Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on Education and Life

COVID-19, also known as the coronavirus pandemic, is the ongoing viral infection associated with the symptoms of the acute respiratory syndrome that happens to cause severe bleeding in the respiratory region of the lungs; hence the victim dies due to blockage of the diaphragm as a result of excessive bleeding. The outbreak of the virus was first realized in Wuhan Province of China in December 2019, which causes a vast number of deaths around the region, more than 10 000 people were dying daily till the province had to be shut down entirely to control the spread. Since the virus spread through contact and is readily available in air basing on its incubation period of 14 days, the virus has managed to spread quickly over the world due to close interactions of people. As a result of the damage caused by the virus, preventive isolative measures had to be put in place to man the viral spread of the infection. Students were forced out of school and asked to stay safe at home and maintain social distance always and effectively. The disease has a negative side that is more visible from all corners of the continents as well as the positive side to the students from all walks of life.

As a student, I cannot be able to get prompt assistance from my teachers in certain areas of my study topics. Studying alone has become confusing, especially when tackling new topics that are yet to be covered by specialized personnel. There is an element of laziness and giving up in studying that comes up gradually, especially when there is no one around to psyche you up concerning the difficulties at hand and encourage you to push harder or rather open for you other avenues of getting more consultations assistance. It has become difficult even to exchange ideas directly with friends and other schoolmates, leave alone getting closer to them more so, they are nowhere to be found anyway. In school, studying was a bit easier, and fun since the environment motivates someone to read, and also, there is the resource set in place for the sole purpose of learning and exploring new concepts. Therefore, the COVID-19 pandemic has lowered the value and capability of the essence of education to many students who are currently at home, hence affecting their overall performance in the long run as well as interfere with the aspect of brain modification.

The panic that the virus has inflicted on students has caused them to lose focus in their studies, thinking that this is the end of life. Some of us are terrified until this very moment, not knowing when the pandemic ends, and everything resumes to normality. Staying at home for most of us students has become the new normal as we watch the number of deaths from the corona victims who have succumbed daily. As a result, our focus has shifted from education and the aspect of pushing for knowledge ultimately. Sometimes I’m just concerned about the safety of other people, those who work tirelessly despite the dangers that await them out there. Since they have no option, they have to walk out in vulnerability and work at least to put food on the table for the family.

Moreover, due to the government’s effort to restrict movement to maintain the social distance rule, people are forced to stay inside hungry with no food or clean water to drink. Incidences like these have shifted the focus of many students who are trying despite many odds to study at home. I usually feel there is no need to study in the house while others are dying out there due to the virus and others hunger kills them. I feel the urge to help instead of sitting down when I am not even focused when reading.

The virus has nevertheless come with some positivity, so to speak to a couple of students who want to sharpen their talents or practical skills, and were not getting the chance to do so in schools. I can learn painting skills with my father as well as learning new languages using interesting approaches, thus reducing the element of repetition and boredom that the schools are giving us as standardized educational programs. Before the pandemic ends and school resumes, we could have rested and refreshed our minds a bit as we go back to the usual conditioned system of education. At home, there is more time that someone has that helps them to understand their selves better and know what can work for them for the sake of using their talents for future prospects. There is no too much competition at home that makes someone to panic when attempting a concept unlike in class where there is too much criticism from fellow students when someone gets thoughts wrong thence making them fear to try analogies in class or even share out their minds. That said, therefore, at home is the best place to grow skills and also learning new things at a reasonable pace that an average student can grasp well.

Most schools have students from diverse setups of the society, and they come with their weird characters and behaviors that can affect other students’ learning capabilities relatively either directly or indirectly. Some naughty students are notorious in bullying other weak students in class and instruct them to do staff that may probably affect their dignity in the process. Some bullies insult other students by calling their parent names that evoke emotions towards other students. Since the weak students can do nothing really, they just let it go at the moment, but later on, the abuse haunts them so harmful to the extent that they even miss school out of fear and disappointments. As a result, most students do get self-esteem issues that affect them to the later stages of their teenage life, and some of them may end up dropping out of school at tender ages and decide to join the street gang members so as at least to feel protected and armed just in case. On the other hand, learning at home has no such situations like bullying and being mocked by other students; hence students can relax their minds and learning in peace and with the passion that it deserves; the above case is on a personal experience basis. Thenceforth the upsurge of COVID-19 pandemic has enabled most students like me to learn at home in a tranquil, relaxed, and most importantly, friendly environment, away from other hostile learning surroundings.
