Part Two

Philadelphia film was acted in the Philadelphia United States hence conducting its treatment in the Indian system requires various modifications using the media effects theories and concepts (Prince, 2015). To move from the state and country setup of the movie to the international scenario, the process requires various principles of the media effects, which influence the flow of the information. Such theories include media logic and agenda-setting concepts (Bryant & Oliver, 2009). By use of the agenda-setting theory, which states that “mass media determine the issue that concerns the public rather than public’s views” to modify the films into the international context. Equally, the issue that mass media concentrates on becomes the public interest through discussions demand of actions and debates (Scheufele, 1999). Discrimination based on individual HIV status more so those infected can get considered and measures demanded by the influence of the mass media. The theory enables the rise in public participation and the introduction of various opinions related to the biases of the people living with HIV around the world. As per Singer (2018), the theory significantly emerges in different films industry in which it enhances the spread of information, putting different local-oriented films into the international context. For example, the films address various issues of discrimination and biases in the united states more in Philadelphia, which at the same time, such factors affect the Indian individuals with HIV.

The media logic theory employed in modifications of the Philadelphia movie posits that “common media formats and styles serve as a means of perceiving the world.” Applying the concept in the modification process, the film creates awareness and a different understanding of the issues of the discrimination on people with HIV (Prince, 2015).  According to Singer (2018), the mass media consumers engage and understand the content conveyed in various media platforms differently based on the topic and context. Such format and style employed in the film would impact the different interpretations of reality from the local settings of the movie to the international context (Bryant & Oliver, 2009). The media logic directly or indirectly affects the individuals as well as various institutions based on different issues affecting the societies.
