Agriculture
Agriculture is the backbone for most of the developing economy. Most of the rural population is dependent on agricultural income. I dreamt of changing the way India’s agriculture sector is working. My country requires new technologies which can modify, transform the genes for better agricultural yield. The application of agricultural biotechnology will help the crops to grow in varied environments. Being a student from the agricultural domain, I feel responsible for thinking for better agrarian production of my country.
To give a brief about my educational background, I completed my tenth in the year 2012 with 8.8 CGPA from Sri Chaitanya Techno School. I took biology, physics, and chemistry subjects in my intermediate education. I completed my intermediate education with 85% in the year 2014 from Sri Chaitanya Junior kalasala. I studied for a common entrance exam for a year to get admission into a college to become a doctor. I took a drastic decision of studying the science of plants and agriculture and pursued a bachelor’s course in agriculture. The course spans over four-years and imparts basic knowledge of Biotechnology, Pathology, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Soil science, Environmental science, Microbiology, Meteorology, Ecology, Farm Power and Machinery, and Water management.
In the seventh semester, I gained practical knowledge of the agricultural sector and honed my skills to understand the current and emerging opportunities and challenges in the rural and agricultural sector by participating in the RAWE (Rural agricultural work experience) which is a part of the curriculum. Participation in RAWE made me think about the best practices that can be implemented in my country in the crop production and agricultural sector.
My basic bachelor in agriculture would not suffice to achieve my dreams and objectives. I need an advanced degree that will hone my skills and knowledge. I introspected on my interest in agriculture subject, and the most passionate subject is agricultural biotechnology. I consulted my well-wishers and mentors regarding my career aspiration. All of them appreciated my idea of pursuing higher education. There are a few universities offering this course in India, but with very limited seats and regional preferences.
I researched many universities and colleges which offers Masters in Agricultural biotechnology. I also looked for a country which offers me a world-class education in my budget. The University of Lethbridge offers a course in Msc agricultural biotechnology. It’s a full-time course for two-years. The University of Lethbridge offers the Msc. Agricultural biotechnology course in my budget. The course is on par with other top universities.
The university offers advanced courses with state-of-art facilities. The courses are designed for a student to meet his/her personal, career, and educational goals. There are diverse groups and clubs which helps a student to pursue his/ her interests and meet a lot of people.
