My dream of serving the agricultural sector
Plants were a part of my life from my childhood. I grew up with plants as if they were my siblings. We had a beautiful garden and a kitchen garden at home and took care of them like a family. Plants were very close to my life from my childhood as my mother was from the Horticulture department. I learned the basics of plant science from my mother. With this affinity and passion for plants, I began my journey into plant sciences.
To give a brief about my educational background, I completed my tenth in the year 2012 with 8.8 CGPA from Sri Chaitanya Techno School. I took biology, physics, and chemistry subjects in my intermediate education. I completed my intermediate education with 85% in the year 2014 from Sri Chaitanya Junior kalasala.
With an inherent passion towards plants, I took up a bachelor’s course from D.Y. Patil College of agriculture from Kolhapur. During my four-year bachelor’s course, I gained knowledge of Biotechnology, Pathology, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Soil science, Environmental science, Microbiology, Meteorology, Ecology, Economics and Management, Computer and Applications, Statistics, Farm Power and Machinery, and Water management. In the seventh semester, I could gain practical knowledge of the theoretical concepts learned in the classrooms by participating in Rural Agricultural work experience (RAWE). The RAWE helps to understand the rural circumstances and the adaptation of modern technologies in the agricultural sector. This program helped to work with farmers and families of farmers, and help them to prioritize their issues and challenges, develop the requisite skills and application of the technologies. Agricultural sector education is always based on “learn while doing” concept, which gives experiential learning experience to every student. The RAWE program propelled my interest in agriculture and plants, and understand the impact of climatic changes, extreme realms of nature and the ecology of plants and agriculture.
My dream of serving the agricultural sector, which is the backbone of Indian economy, cannot be fulfilled with my basic bachelor’s degree. I need an advanced course in an advanced country to apply technologies and theories in my country. I consulted my mentors, professors, and seniors on my thought. They were happy and supported my thought and encouraged me to put in action.
My dream is to pursue higher education in plant science and applied crop production. I researched many universities and colleges on the course which will quench my knowledge thirst and fits in the budget. The University of Manitoba offers the course just as I want and fits in my budget.
The department of plant and science is one of the top seven in the faculty of agricultural sciences in Canada which has expertise in applied science and basic science. The department encourages research in the field of crop production, agronomy and plant production, plant physiology sustainable plant production, etc. The department has state-of-art facilities, excellent lab, green-house space, sixty-hectare research field, and one hundred and sixty-five hectare field at prime agri soil in Manitoba.
The university and the course are impressive, and I am convinced that I will have a promising career after pursuing the career. As a next step, I researched the country where I will step and pursue the course. I am astonished to appreciate that Canada is a great place to study. Canada is a beautiful nation with multi-ethnicity. This country embraces international students and accepts with warmth. The weather is suitable for Indians to live in. It is ranked seventh in the global peace index; hence, it is safe for international students like me to live there. Canada offers high-quality to all the students at par with all the best universities globally. Education in Canada is of international standards and at par with many top global universities. The Canadian universities are known for their research work and brilliant quality of education. Canada Universities exhibit diversity and inclusion.
I am extremely happy and thrilled to pursue a Masters in the domain of my interest and awaiting to embrace the competition to face. A Masters in Plant Science from the University of Manitoba will help me to stay ahead of the competition. After the completion of the course, I will come back to India to implement the advanced theories learned in Canada. I have a responsibility towards my mother to take care of her in her declining age, as my father passed away, and she needs my support.
Summarizing all the above, my educational background, family background, and my earnest intention to come back to India after completion of the course, I regard an admission in your reputed university as a privilege and an opportunity to fulfill my dreams and ambition.
