Texas Governor vs. Governor or Senator vs. Senator

Leadership is a crucial phenomenon in the human environment. Different leaders are characterized by their level of performance in their areas of operations. Effective leaders are regarded to be those individuals who can influence and attract other individuals within and outside the organization. Texas is only one among other states in the United States of America. While examining Texas State, it is essential to focus on issues related to leaders and leadership. Some of the relevant levels of administration present in Texas State include Governorship and senator’s position. George W. Bush is a prominent Texan former governor who is known for his enormous contribution in different areas. George W. Bush is the 46th Texan governor who served for an extended time (Jacobson 742). While serving as a governor of Texas, George W. Bush formulated and supported many policies that aimed at improving the living condition in his region. Another instrumental Texan Governor is Rick Perry. Rick Perry is the 47Th Texan governor who also played a fundamental role during his tenure. Both George W. Bush and Rick Perry belonged to the same political position since they were supports and members of Republican Party. Education, capital punishment, and crime reduction policies form the basis of comparing and contrasting the achievements of George W. Bush and Rick Perry.

One of the similarities between Governor George W. Bush and Governor Rick Perry is educational achievement. Educational policies entail all statement of intent that the government is willing and able to initiate in a particular area. These two personalities were engaged in the field of education in different ways. The governments of George W. Bush and Rick Perry proposed and provided for specific strategies that aimed at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of education in Texas. For example, Governor George W. Bush and Rick Perry initiated scholarship programs to provide support to the vulnerable students in the United States of America. For example, George W. Bush started the Silver Scholarship program that offered certain funds to volunteers in the educational arena. Similarly, Governor Rick Perry proposed a scholarship program that supported homeschooling and other students from low-performing institutions. Consequently, both governors increased educational resources in different schools (Zavattaro and Terence 109). For example, George W. Bush proposed that enough or additional resources should be supplied to respective schools in Texas. Similarly, Governor Rick Perry also supported the provision of resources such as textbooks to many schools. Based on the above discussion, it is evident that these two governors achieved in the area of education through the provision of support to individuals.

Consequently, capital punishment is another policy that expresses achievements of Governor George W. Bush and Rick Perry. The leadership of these two governors witnessed mass execution or killings of certain prisoners. Some individuals seriously opposed the death penalty that was being encouraged by George Bush’s administration. The record shows that George Bush actively presided over the execution of many inmates in American history. It means that he was the most active Texan governor who took death penalty as a proper way of maintaining justice within the state. In most cases, George W. Bush approved many cases related to death penalty hence increasing the rate of executions. Governor Rick Perry’s policy on the death penalty is similar to that of George Bush because he embraced the execution of criminals in Texas (Jones 223). One of the steps that marked involvement of Rick Perry in the death penalty is the action to encourage the execution of mentally disabled prisoners in Texas. Rick’s administration also faced criticism from other human rights activists who felt that execution is not a crucial way to administer justice. Even though the death penalty encountered a series of criticism, it improved justice and prevented several crimes in Texas since people were afraid of being executed.

Moreover, Governor George W. Bush and Rick Perry achieved in the area of crime reduction during their reign. Legal reforms were a common area of concern in the administration of these two governors. These governors proposed and implemented laws that acted as a road map to curb crime in Texas. For example, George W. Bush implemented the law that permitted Texan residents to hold concealed weapons (Morin Walter 202). Consequently, Governor Rick Perry also adopted and practiced different strategies to eliminate crime. For example, he signed many bills that enabled individuals to carry concealed weapons. The above explanation shows a significant achievement because it enhanced security in Texas.

On the other hand, education policy can also be used to display differences between Governor George W. Bush and Rick Perry. For example, George W. Bush used the Federal government as a platform for educational reforms. In most cases, Bush believed that education is a local and a state responsibility thus requires the involvement of the federal government (Zavattaro and Terence 115). On the other hand, Governor Rick Perry opposed any form of participation of the Federal government in educational issues. Therefore, according to him, the Federal government should not engage itself in education policy. Such ideology made Governor Rick Perry abolish Department of Education. Thus, federal responsibilities mark the difference between George W. Bush and Rick Perry on the foundation of education.

To sum up, education, capital punishment, and crime reduction are some of the policies that can be analyzed to demonstrate the aspect of similarities and differences between Governor George W. Bush and Rick Perry of Texas. The above statements portray that these policies marked the achievements of these leaders despite some rejections. Therefore, leaders should always propose and implement effective strategies that are beneficial to the entire nation.
