Introduction (Two Theories)
In my opinion, the two theories I will apply to cope with this pandemic of Covid-19 are the Division of Labor and Functionalism theory.
1) Division of Labor
-The meaning of division of labor is the society will split their skill and role to the different part of the society.
-Everyone will divide the different role of skill between making social progress in the correct direction.
-The reasons I choose the division of labor to cope with this pandemic is because, at this moment, everyone should contribute our strength to cope with this pandemic.
-For example, a doctor contributes their knowledge and skill to treat all the patient. The police as a person to make sure all the citizens follow the SOP set by the government to reduce the spread of the virus. From both examples, we can see that we applied the theory of division of labor in our daily life.
– Furthermore, not only for the doctor and police or government can contribute to their role. As a student, we also can contribute our strength to solve this issue.
-First, we should follow the rule and make sure ourselves follow the SOP in all the area. Besides that, we can make sure ourselves not spreading any fake news in social media. At the same time, we can post something positive information and help to spread correct information to all the people.
– Everyone divides their strength to the different skill of work can make the work faster to solve. All the social institution also helps to cope with this pandemic. The social institution like a school, government or non-government institution also help to increase the awareness of the people on how to cope with this pandemic.
2) Functionalism Theory
-The second theory is about the functionalism theory. The meaning of functionalism is the structure of all society is interrelated to each other, which providers the biological and social needs to all the individual.
– According to Emile Durkheim, he mentions that all society will work together to maintain the solidarity and stability of society.
– Everyone has their function to maintain this stability.
– In my opinion, the individual will divide their strength to different work. Still, at the same time, they also have to work together because the stability of the society cannot be maintaining if any part of the institution become malfunction.
– For example, the social institution will work together to cope with this pandemic. The government set the rule for the citizen to follow and the police work together with the government to make sure all of us follow the rule.
-Furthermore, the family also as one of the social institutions to guide the people. Our parent or even ourselves, can reminder all our family members to obey the SOP and take care of our cleanness to reduce the spread of the virus.
-Wearing a mask is one of the things we can follow by now. We can always remind our family members wearing a mask when going out and keep social distancing between each other.
– All institution or individual has their function. We should work together to cope with this pandemic.
Conclusion
-As an Anthropology and Sociology student, we should use our knowledge to contribute to society, and we also have to give our concern to the issues that happen around us.
