A proper diet is vital for our survival and well-being. It is crucial to ensure that one gets adequate nutrients from each group of food. Experts have put various healthy eating habits that can be adopted.

One of the healthy eating habits is eating multi-colored fruits and vegetables. It helps the body to get a wide range of nutrients that help fight diseases. Vegetables also help in filling up the stomach and therefore reduce the craving for unhealthy foods.

One should also not deprive themselves of good food but should take smaller portions instead. To achieve this, one needs to use dishes that are not too big; a 9-inch plate is excellent. All foods taken in more modest and moderate portions can be beneficial to the body. Additionally, one should enjoy while eating food. Too much concentration on calorie counts can cause anxiety.

A meal plan is also a good habit. One should plan what to eat at a given time.Cooking in advance and packing the food in the fridge or taking food to work helps one to avoid being lured into unhealthy meals.

It is imperative to eat at least five times a day. Skipping meals only deteriorates the situation because it sends the body into a starving mode, causing it to store more. Take more food during the day when the digestive system is very active and when the body needs energy. Breakfast and mid-morning meals should be more and well balanced. Evening meals should be taken early in the evening and should be lighter. This is to avoid the storage of foods in the body since there’s little energy needed at bedtime.

Salty, Sugary, and carbonated foods should be minimized. Too much intake of salt affects blood pressure and can lead to hypertension. Sugar (added sugar, not natural), on the other hand, can cause obesity and tooth decay when taken in high portions. Carbonated soda is known to affect the body glycemia and can affect the bone structure in the body. Instead, drink a lot of water during the day to remain hydrated.

Low-fat dairy products and unsaturated fats are better. Sarurated fats are likely to raise cholesterol levels in the body, and this can cause heart diseases. Small amounts of vegetable and olive oils should be used instead of butter, hard cheese, fatty meat, and others. A regular intake of nuts is good for the provision of zinc, fiber, and poly-unsaturated fats.

In conclusion, it is essential to prepare a variety of food regularly to avoid boredom. Food should also be tasty and appealing. For example, instead of steaming vegetables, one can add in some olive oil, tomato sauce, pepper, and garlic.
