The most important problem that the world faces currently.

Global warming. This a general increase of temperature on earth. It is as a result of climate change and mostly caused by human beings. It has adverse effects on earth such as rising sea levels, changing precipitation, and expansion of deserts in the subtropics. If this aspect of increase in temperature persists then future warming is expected to be greatest in Arctic regions than on land and oceans.

Question one, Worth Ten Points.

Part 1

Drake equation

Frank Drake was a man who was working with the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) in Green Bank, West Virginia where he undertook his first attempt to find extraterrestrial civilizations. However, it is an attempt to enclose all the variables that would be relevant to establish the number of intelligent civilizations. He worked for four good months at a period of six hours per day, and the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) radio telescope was listening for radio signals of intelligent origin. His work focused on the Milky Way galaxy and the present radio broadcast at that particular time. This “Drake Equation” is made up of seven variables. From the first to the sixth variable, they are used to compute the rate at which intelligent civilizations are being created, and the final variable identifies how long each lasts on average as a broadcasting civilization. This equation does not apply to any other cultures in other galaxies just because they are too far to detect their radio signals.

The drake equation is:

N = R * fp *ne *fl *fi *fC *L

Therefore, the values that I will use when coming up with my version of the Drake equation are described below including their estimates.

R = 10

fp = 0.5

ne = 2.0

fl = 1.0

fi = 0.001

fc = 0.01

L = 10000

After selecting the above values whereby some are estimated and some are just hypothesized, we look at what each parameter entails and means.

R – The rate of formation of Suitable Stars in the Milky Way Galaxy

The current astronomical technology made it possible to study the early period between the structure of the first generation of stars in the Milky Way and that of this group of stars that are gravitationally bounded. The estimates for the formation of a new number of stars in the Milky Way vary from 200 billion to 300 billion. It is also very important to know the age of formation of these stars in the Milky Way. It varies from a period of 800 million years to 13 billion years. As we start from the lowest star count and the oldest age for the galaxy, the average rate of star formation works out to 7.7 new stars per year. If we go with the highest star count and the youngest age for the galaxy, the average rate of star formation becomes 500 new stars per year. This implies that the rate of star formation in the galaxy is not constant overtime. In the earlier days, stars were formed at a higher rate than today’s’ estimate which ranges from 5 to 20.

FP – The Fraction of Stars with Planets

When Frank Drake came up with his equation, the only planets that were recognized at that time were those of our solar system. At the time the Drake Equation was created, the only planets that were known were those of our solar system. From that time almost more than 200 planets have been discovered. During that time, gravitational disruptions were rampant that could prevent planets from forming. This made them believe that planets would only be found in a single system of stars. This conception caused omission of almost half of the stars from being considered. In simple terms, the fraction of stars range from 5% to 90%. A value of 0.5 I used above means that in every five stars present 1 star will at least have a planet.

ne – The Average Number of Habitable Planets per Star

This part explains mainly the extent to which a planet can sustain life like earth. There are factors that should be considered for the planet to be defined that it can sustain life. These factors are; the chemical composition of the solar nebula from which the planets were formed that is the presence of enough quantities of the necessary elements and the range of orbital distances within which water can exist. I have assigned value 2 to my parameter meaning that an average of two planets per star with a planet can sustain life.

Additionally, a value of 1.0 for this parameter means that you think that every star with planets will have one habitable planet.

fl – The Fraction of Habitable Planets Where Life Emerges

Earth is the only planet where life emerges. However, even when given the required conditions that can sustain life it is still hard to depict it. Consider this; the Earth is approximately 4.5 billion years old. This implies that life got started rather quickly on Earth. The big unknown is just how common are the conditions which resulted in life. This is one reason why the search for evidence of past life on Mars is so important. Finding or not finding evidence of past and present life on Mars will help us to better answer the question of the likelihood of life elsewhere in the galaxy and universe. Because of fewer chances of planets sustaining life, I used the value 0.001which means that in every 100 habitable planets only 1 has a life.

fi – The Fraction of Planets With Life Where Intelligence Life Evolves

A Planet may be able to support life, but the question is how likely it will have intelligent life. Out of all the species surviving on earth, only one managed to develop intelligence. There is no parameter to distinguish microscopic life that lacks the complexity to develop intelligence from the development of complex macroscopic life. Choosing a value of 0.001 for this variable means that intelligent life will appear on only 1 of every 1000 planets with life.

FC – The Fraction of Intelligent Civilizations with Interstellar Communication

An excellent example to be used in this case is the existence of aliens. Even if they might exist on the planet do they have the ability to construct or make transport services or develop in terms of technology? The chances of having all this are minimal. Therefore I used a value of 0.001 which means that only 1 out of 1000 civilizations can develop the technology.

L – The Number of Years an Intelligent Civilization Remains Detectable

L variable turns the equation from a rate into a number. It is also a number for which there is no real basis for the assignment of a value. We are the only intelligent civilization we know of, and we do not know how long we will remain detectable. A conservative estimate for this value would be 50 years based on our own experience to date. Drake felt that 10,000 years was a good guess.

N – The answer is the Number of Detectable Civilizations at this Time

N – Is the answer to the number of intelligent civilizations that are broadcasting their presence to the Universe? From the equation, all the variable are calculated with the view of getting N value.

How packages will be stolen this year in California

Buying packages online are the shortest way of making purchases. However, it has a lot of many riskss when buying because they can get lost easily. And if a package is stolen, one may not have much recourse. Either retailers or delivery companies are responsible for packages after they’ve been dropped off, and may or may not offer to replace the product. For this reason here are some of the ways of avoiding package lost.

Schedule deliveries with the shipping company

Sometimes it becomes very hard for one to know when the package arrives at his or her home to accept the delivery. Fortunately, you can set up notifications with delivery services that will let you know exactly when your package will arrive and reschedule it or have it held for pickup. Though sometimes notifications are free they can costly sometimes.

Add delivery instructions to keep packages off the front cover

One can add extra delivery instructions to the order. You could ask them to leave items by a side door where they won’t be easily spotted by thieves. Look for a “delivery instructions” option when you’re entering shipping information, then add any details that can help in securing your package.

Have packages left inside your house with Amazon Key

Amazon Key is not more convenient, which lets the delivery staff unlock your door and leave your package inside. When you get home, your items are waiting for you, safe and sound.

That may sound like a big security risk, but Amazon offers some features to make sure your home and your packages are safe:

The driver knocks at the door on arrival.

If the driver doesn’t receive an answer, they’ll send a request to Amazon unlock your door.

Amazon verifies that the driver has your package is at your address.

Amazon notifies you that your package is being delivered and turn on the Cloud Cam so you can watch the delivery live.

Amazon unlocks the door remotely, without providing the driver with a key code.

The driver puts the package just inside the door, without entering your home.

Get deliveries on your schedule with a delivery service

With this service, package deliveries are brought at the time specified. All you have to do is sign up for an account and then have your packages sent to the central point rather than your home. This will help in reducing theft cases against packages in California.

Question 2.

The number of grains of rice on the n (the) square is 2^ (n-1), or 2 to the power of n-1. This is because the first square has 2^0 = 1 grain, the second has 2^1 = 2, and the n (th) square has twice as many as the previous.

Log 2 (159,200,000) = 8.2 years

QUESTION FOUR

At what date would every citizen of Sierra Leon be infected?

Between June 14 and July 14

Ways of preventing Ebola disease

Ebola is a rare but deadly viral disease that causes fever, body aches, and diarrhea, and sometimes bleeding inside and outside the body. When this virus spread inside the body, it damages the immune system and some of the body organs. Letting a massive group of people dying with Ebola disease is not an appropriate solution. Instead, the government of Sierra Leon would have looked into a better scientific means of controlling the spread of this dangerous disease. Here are some of the methods of controlling the spread of Ebola.

In case someone is in the area affected by Ebola he/she is advised to avoid the following:

Avoid getting into contact with blood and body fluids like urine, feces, saliva, sweat, vomit, breast milk, semen, and vaginal fluids.

A void using properties with an infected person such as clothes, bedding, needles, and medical equipment.

Avoid funeral or burial rituals that require handling the body of someone who died from Ebola.

Avoid using bush meat or meat from unknown sources and getting into contact with non-human primates.

Avoid getting in contact with semen from a man who had Ebola because semen also enables the spread of Ebola virus.

The prevention measures stated above would have greatly helped the government of Sierra Leon from letting people die of the disease instead of giving them precautions that could help them reduce the spread of the disease across the country.

His progress looks logarithmic because it is an exponent. It means that log (a) x is the exponent to which a must be raised to obtain x. Every function of form f(x) = (a) x passes the Horizontal Line Test, and therefore it has an inverse function.

The guy gets less gain for the same amount of work as he progress because the graph is inverse. Also, the graph represents independent variable. This means that as the guy complete more task, he gain less compared to the previous pay. This is due to the bigger the value are inversed, the smaller the value he obtain.

This is Logarithmic graph because it represents the inverse of the exponent. In calculating how long it will be before he can squat 650 we do simple calculations.

Log100 650= 2.8129

The graph is inverse exponential to me. This is because the functions are one to one meaning that it has an inverse that is a function. The inverse of any exponential is usually a logarithmic function. The inverse of functions is obtained by switching the x and y-axis.This reflects a graph about the line y=x. One can tell the graph to the right of the graph, so the logarithmic curve is a reflection of the exponential curve. The work of inverse of any function is to show if x value was used when we already know the y value.

The graph can also be model in both linear and inverse exponential. The linear graph is also used in expressing in daily relationship. When graphing linear graphs, we use straight line. Also, linear graphs can be sketched or plotted. It is impossible to model it using a line graph because the value is not consistence

According to the graph the guy will get never reach his target.T his is because the final x coordinate are not ending in descending order compared to Y coordinate that are consistence. The guy will take long time in fulfilling his target.

In comparison between what the app thinks the app would be more accurate in data interpretation giving a perfect graph. The app will give a perfect date when the guy will reach his target of 200 ibs rather than just mere estimation of the graph.

QUESTION EIGHT

Half-life – infrequent user = 1.3 days

Frequent user = 8days

Joint content = 23mg

Detection period = 4days

23mg = 4days

Infrequent user

23mg – 1.3days

4days

= 4*231.3 = 70

= 3days

Frequent user

23mg – 8days

4days

= 4*238 = 4 days

Question nine

Total energy = 192.9.e (k – l) t / ᴧ whereby; ᴧ = lk

K = effective neutrons (2.4)

L = 10^-5

ᴧ = 10^-52.4

Total energy released = 4.182*10^26MeV

Therefore … 4.182*10^26MeV = 192.9.e (2.4-10^-5) t/10^-52.4

Find t given that 4.182*10^26 = 193.9e (2.4-10^-5) t/10^-52.4

t = 193.94.182 = 46.4days
