New Auditing Roles in 12c

The Oracle 12c introduced the two modern auditing roles, which are the AUDIT-VIEWER and the AUDIT-ADMIN. The new roles were mainly introduced due to the great interest in security improvement for the audit reports. Ming states that; “In the former versions, every user had a restriction of enabling and disabling the auditing process on the user’s objects” (Jiang & Ming, p.11). However, since the new roles have advanced security features, any form of security breaches is not possible. They have enabled the companies to have the approach that they can be assured of the security of their data. It has, therefore, contributed enormously to the processes of data management that ensure that organizations are able to maintain their privacy standards (Jiang & Ming, p.11).

The Oracle 12c introduced the AUDIT-ADMIN auditing role intending to improve the policies for auditing. The audit policies included the maintenance of the data for the audit, improving housekeeping, and the establishing of defined auditing. The audit policy was introduced by Oracle 12c to enable the users to analyze data for matters of security. Also, it allows the user to configure the process of auditing such that he or she can have unified and fine-grained policies in auditing. According to Rajesh, “the main purpose of the roles was the configuration and analysis of the audit process” (Narang & Rajesh, p.27). In the field of IT, the auditing of the database entails inspecting the database so as to develop an understanding of the activities that the user of the database have been engaged in.

AUDIT-VIEWER, on the other hand, was introduced by the oracle 12c for purposes of viewing and making reports on the data. Through the AUDIT-VIEWER, the external auditors can view the data and analyze it. Memory analysis, therefore, become intuitive and quicker. It is of great importance in the viewing, and the analysis of the data audited. The system sets up a security standard such that authorized individuals can only view the database. The auditing of databases generally entails the tracking of the records in accordance with the security standards of the database. Every activity conducted on data is often monitored to identify the specific data records that were touched. It also helps to understand the time when the database was accessed and the accounts where operations were conducted.

The purpose of the introduction of the two audit roles was to solve the problems with security. For example, the AUDIT-VIEWER was introduced so that the external auditors can get the opportunity to view and make an analysis of the data. The AUDIT-ADMIN, on the other hand, made it possible to observe the audit records and, at the same time, allowed for the cleaning up of the trails. Through it, it was also possible to point out the possible exclusions from the audit policies. Jiang outlines that; “the use of the technology allows for the usability and top quality of data for the particular business reasons” (Jiang & Ming, p.112). It also allows for the correction of the mistakes made in data entry and therefore makes the data more reliable.

In conclusion, the oracle 12c made a significant step by the introduction of the audit roles. It was a great relief for the effort that the consumers often made to automate and standardized the cloud-based database services. The step gave rise to the two new roles, which are the AUDIT-VIEWER and the AUDIT-ADMIN. The process of data auditing ensures that the data available on the website is compliant and the protection of the sensitive data.
