comedy

On the other hand, cracking a joke that embraces the audience to make them at least laugh is not an easy thing. It is due to this that the comedians often attempt to twist their work to embrace the audience. By so doing, the comedians may crack a joke that is offensive to a specific class of people or individuals. For instance, a comedian might crack a joke that seems to despise one gender. In most cases, the audience does not take such fun to be offensive because they have an understanding of how the comedy industry operates. For these reasons, the comedians cannot be held accountable for their remarks or acts; the same way the rest of the public can be held. If a non-comedian pronounces hatred remarks, the individual is likely to face some repercussions over the same. However, if the same statements are from a comedian, then the comedian might not be held accountable for the same. For instance, Caitlin points out on the jokes made about rape and sexism. The perception of students towards a comedian who cracks such jokes will be different from other ordinary people when they speak of rape and sexism.

Moreover, comedians need not be held with the same political correctness standards as other people because some of their acts may seem to be humorless. For instance, some jokes comedians may seem to conflict with liberal values. For example, a comedian might crack jokes on racial and sexual themes. If the audience held the comedian with the same political correctness standards as others, then he or she will be blamed for supporting racism and sexism. Most of the comedians who have chosen to adhere to political correctness have lost several audiences, especially the students. Caitlin clearly states that jokes that exempted sexuality, race, and other hot button issues were not welcomed at colleges. This is, therefore, a clear indication that comedians should never be judged using the same political correctness standards as people.

Lastly, Caitlin argues that comedy is at its best when it’s allowed to evolve on its own over time. This refers to the incident in which comedians work out their comics better without external pressures. The humor should come naturally by itself and not when the audience predetermines the themes of the comedy. Lastly, Caitlin argues that jokes are different from making speeches on sensitive topics.
