ANALYSIS OF HITLER’S SPEECH
Hitler’s speech, in 1933, after coming into power was an encouraging occasion for the struggling people of Germany. His confidence in politics and his excellent oratory skills made most of the German to believe in him because he gave them the hope for a better future. At the time Hitler came into power, approximately seven million Germans were unemployed. Besides, the unity of the Germans had been destroyed (Peterson, 2014). German had lost its political place in the world. Therefore, according to Hitler, these problems were as a result of the confusion of personal and political opinions, economic interests, and differences in ideologies.
In his speech, Hitler uses different approaches to appeal to the nationalism of the German people. At that time, Germany was facing many problems, and therefore, Hitler the Germans to come together to rebuild the nation. “We are convinced that the German people took part in the 1914 fight with the desire to defend and preserve the Fatherland…” Hitler, (1933) shared historical memories and some cultural aspects such as associating the Germans with their homeland. In this way, Hitler was appealing for the German to understand the importance of solidarity, which is essential towards rebuilding trade and commerce in the country.
Additionally, Hitler suggests that Germany should do away with Communism in the coming decades. “Communism, with its disruptive method, is making a powerful and insidious attack on our shattered country.” According to Hitler (1933), the concept of Communism, where people in the community share property based on their needs, will probably lead to disruption and chaos in Germany. Moreover, he adds that fourteen years of Communism have ruined Germany, and if that trend continues in the next decade, Germans will be struggling in poverty. Additionally, Hitler expressed the sufferings that the Germans had to endure in the last decade and a half. “…Germany should be a warning of the storm that is on the way…” Thousands of Germans had been wounded, and hundreds were killed in the previous encounter, which was to be a sign that suggested a move to WWII and the Holocaust.
Hitler’s speech can be considered to be motivating and also giving hope for a better future despite not knowing the measures to be taken and the expected sufferings. His ability to relate to the Germans makes Hitler gain more credibility. He shared his experience as a German soldier, which makes people feel that he understands their grievances. His speech encourages the Germans to come together to build the nation (Peterson, 2014). In this way, Hitler wins their trust, and the Germans become more receptive to his ideologies.
In conclusion, the speech given by Hitler was crucial in giving the Germans the hope for a better future. Most of the problems faced by the Germans were attributed by the confusion of personal and political opinions, economic interests, and differences in ideologies. Additionally, Hitler appeals to the nationalism of the German people by sharing some historical memories and some cultural aspects, for example, associating the Germans with their homeland. In this way, the Germans can understand the importance of solidarity towards rebuilding the nation.
