FUTURE NURSING

Effective transformation of the healthcare service delivery can only be achieved through proper equipping of the service providers. The nurses make the highest portion of the medical workforce delivering health care services to the patient. To achieve effectiveness, therefore, the united states health department should focus on changing the service delivery capacity of the largest portion of the workforce (Bosch et al. 2009). The institute of medicine reports on the ways through which the service delivery can be transformed to ensure the affordability, accessibility and service quality is guaranteed by nurses to their patients. The report’s analysis of the current health service delivery in the united states and creates the image of the intended future of service delivery.

Transformation of the service delivery system to fit into the needs and expectations of the patient to meet the increased demand for health care services are the prevailing norms discussed in the report. Transformation of the workforce will be achieved through a transformed education system (Adams and Kerr. 2004). The approach will ensure that the nurses are well trained and are capable of solving the market needs. Among the approaches the report suggest is evidenced based nursing practices. Under this approach, the nursing department will be using the current medical knowledge and techniques in their practices. Basing the training of nurses on successful medical practices and not just a mire proposition will enhance their training. Another approach proposed in the report is practice transformation, this will be possible through the use of the latest medical equipment and procedures in carrying out a medical procedures. To effectively achieve the required change, the leadership has to change to fit into these new organizational requirements (Craven, G., and S. Ober. 2009). Changing the management of the nursing department will help effect the change. Among the main benefits accrued by these changes is improved service quality which transforms into more lives saved.
