The impacts of flight on the Environment.

Climate change is a significant concern for flights and aircraft. For instance, the decline in the amount of ozone in the stratosphere increases the concentration of ultraviolet radiation, heightened local and regional pollution. However, transportation by air is not the only human activity that contributes to atmospheric emissions. Other industrial activities and agricultural activities contribute significantly to the accumulation of gases. The aircraft in motion emit various greenhouses and ozone-depleting gases. They include oxides of carbon, sulfur, nitrogen, hydrocarbons, and even excess water particles. All these emissions interfere with the composition of the atmosphere chemically. Even though plants utilize a significant amount of carbon dioxide, there still a considerable amount of accumulating in the atmosphere, significantly impacting the chemistry of the atmosphere. Over time the gases accumulate, causing a blanket like a layer known as the greenhouse effect. The effect, in turn, raises the global temperature causing tremendous effects on climate. The high amount of moistures and other gasses, such as nitrous oxide, lead to the formation of clouds near the earth’s surface. Cirrus clouds near the ground surface impair with visibility. The combined effect of clouds that are cirrus and the contrails rise in temperatures resulting from aviation.

According to a report from the IPCC, the emissions from anthropogenic activities account for about two to four times the global rise in temperature. However, the IPCC report does not implicate emissions from the flights as the significant contributor to this temperature rise. These are human activities that are related to emissions alone. There a correlation between the various issues affecting the Environment with the elevation of a particular place. The higher the altitude of a given area, the more the dame that will be incurred by the ozone. The height of flights therefore plays a critical role in the destruction of the ozone. According to the study, therefore, the aviation industry poses detrimental impacts on the Environment, including climate change.
