NEGATIVE IMPACTS OF STEREOTYPES.

Referring to something as stereotypical or someone as a stereotype, what exactly does it implicate? Stereotypes are outdated and are no longer hold water in this day and age.  This is because it unfairly clusters and binds people or things to a particular situation that may not necessarily be the case. Many people in society are often stereotypical because they are not adequately equipped with the necessary information.  Basing claims, according to a report written by Momentous Institute (2017), stereotypes can be harmful.

One prevalent stereotype is concerning people of black color. Although over the passage of time and people being educated concerning racism, the general outlook of people of color has changed considerably positively, they are still plagued with stereotypes. Examples of such stereotypes are that blacks are lazy and uncommonly perceived to be thieves. This leads to the wrongful arrest of innocent people. This happens because people tend to associate them with poverty because of the countries they come from.  This, therefore, leads to them missing out on a lot of opportunities. They tend to be denied job and employment opportunities unfairly because of these uncanny stereotypes.  These stereotypes are false and should be rectified for the better good.

Another stereotype is concerning gender. Many people are generally male chauvinists without even noticing because of the society that they have been brought up in. The general belief is that the male gender is superior to the female gender, and therefore this causes belittling of the female gender. Many people have the notion that females are weaker and, therefore, should be given lighter jobs. Their male counterparts are often rather than not given higher positions in jobs because they are deemed fit for the posts. This denies females opportunities to better themselves and also to serve. Placing both the male and the female gender on a weighing scale, the balance indicates that they are equal and should be treated as such.

Stereotypes are outdated, and with the modern new-age, they should be wholly eradicated to eliminate their negative impacts on society. People should be educated concerning them because, more often, it is the lack of information that is the power that enables these stereotypes to thrive.
