Research on American youth

Introduction

Equal provision of resources and opportunities for African Americans as articulated by Logan (2018)  is aimed at strengthening the African American youth by ensuring that the living population in the U.S receives education so that they can build a stronger foundation for their society. This summary is going to focus on personal development education, career development education, financial literacy education, and lastly mental health education which is important while achieving the same. The target age is between 15-29 intending to be working hard for a fruitful future.

Importance of personal development education

Activities that improve self-identity and knowledge, talent development, and potential build human employability and capital and enhance aspirations and realization of dreams is what makes up personal development. African American youth as articulated by Belgrave (2018) lack the opportunity to create a better life physically, mentally, and also spiritually. However, with personal development, the first step is made of achieving the same. Personal development in African youth helps them focus on important things in life. African

The capacity to handle situations that are important in our lives is an important quality in black American lives. Decades have passed by with the struggle of Black Americans is not only in education but also in terms of retirement as they face greater wealth woes than their white counterparts. Due to a lack of proper education on how to save their salary and invest in the future, they end up suffering at old age.

Importance of Career development

The concept of carrier development is meant at doing away with race as a means of determining employees’ capability of working. Again, in this life long process, one can make changes in the direction of the world towards work. Black Americans lack the opportunity to choose white-collar carriers mostly because of their race and history. About 30% of children as articulated by Logan (2018) living in L.A are born living with poverty. However, with proper carrier development, these children will be able to grow and acquire proper skills and attributes that are crucial in making effective carrier decisions.

Moreover, they will be able to learn general skills for instance time management, public speaking, and problem-solving. By this, they will be able to advance towards a less crowded carrier and help their community as well.

Importance of Financial literacy

Financial literacy enables one to have knowledge and understanding to make sound and financial decisions and manage personal finance effectively. On average Belgrave (2018) asserts that African American adults tend to exhibit lower financial well-being than the U.S. white population. But with proper financial literacy, the African community will grow and become financially stable. A typical black family earns an income that is 58% that of a typical white family. Moreover, the median black family income was just 63% that of a white family. The lack of proper financial planning of young Black American youths has brought a wide gap between the lower and the higher class.

Mental health education

The evolution of Black American men as articulated by Logan (2018) has been characterized by violence and trauma more often than the rest of the other minorities. This violence has grown into present-day racism which is structural, institutional, and individual. Dealing with all this, Black Americans are made to deal with loads of trauma. Mental health education will enable them to grow mentally and become productive as well. Again, with proper mental care it will be easier to make the right decisions, both financially and for a brighter future.
