The Evolution of Technology
Part 1
The history of computers is not just about how technology has evolved but how human creativity has led to the globalization of the world. Historians claim that the first computer was invented by Charles Babbage, who created the analytical equipment in 1860. But it was Konrad Zuse, a German engineer who invented the Z3 machine that used a binary system in the year 1941. This invention was significant because this system is used in most of the devices today, such as televisions. However, this computer was not reliable since it could program the abc leading to the invention of the IBM computer, which was primarily used in the army. Grace harper was the lead scientist in this computer hence was sent to program the MAC 1 and the MAC 2. In 1947 Walter Houser and John Bardeen came up with the first function transistor, and this invention opened the door for digital computers. Between the year 1974, the 1980 silicon conductor was developed by scientists used by scientists to build more efficient machines that had more memory space at a lower price. Steve Jobs of Apple Company was a revolutionary figure in the making of computers by inventing the apple one and apple two computers. These computers were user friendly as compared to other networks. Bill gate created Microsoft in 1975. It revolutionized the computer world since it used as an operating system in computers. This computer came with very many advantages since it made communication easier, increased efficiency in the industries, and also made the world a global village. In my lifetime there many technological advancements have taken place, making the world a global community where everybody gets connected through the internet. The smartphones which were invented by the apple company in 2007 have played a great deal in the development of technology as it has multiple purposes more than just making calls.
Part 2
From the video, it is evident that technology has taken a milestone to evolve into what we now call advanced technology that improves people’s life. One of the reasons that some of these scientists invented the computer was to make work easier. Mathematicians thought of a computer to help them in the computation of numbers, store too much information that a human mind cannot hold. It is exciting how these individual scientists were inspired to invent and create something that works almost like a human brain. Technology has not only provided a positive impact on society, but it also has some negatives. I have also witnessed technology evolve and advance over my life. For instance, when I was a little kid, there were no smartphones like the ones we see today. Initially, phones were intended for communication alone, while some of our parents used them as a calculator when computing small sums. Technology is beneficial because it has made the life of humans better. However, with the emerging trends in the harmful effects of technology, such as isolation and alienation, we need to proceed with moderation. The other day parents were complaining about the overdependence of technology among school children. Therefore, if we do not proceed with moderation, technology will turn people into robots. The negative impacts of technology can be mitigated in several ways, including employing cautionary measures and strategies that meant to safeguard the welfare of the primary users.
Video II
Genocides are an act that has intentions to destroy the whole nation or an ethic community because of racial, ethnic, and religious differences. One of the most deadly genocides recorded was the Holocaust, where Germans under the leadership of Adolf Hitler killed over six million Jews claiming that they were a weak race and they should the removed from the face of the earth. Rwanda is also an example of a country that has faced the dark side of genocide. In 1994 the Hutus and Tutsis of Rwanda engaged in ethnic clashes where Hutus slaughtered masses of Tutsi. During this genocide, over 800,000 Rwandans were killed, with most of them being from the Tutsi community, who last more than half of their population. The genocide had very devastating effects since people were displaced from their homes while more others lost their lives due to political differences between political parties. Some of the most recent genocide are the Rohingya of the state Myanmar in Bangladesh. Most of the people in this country are Buddhist, but the Rohingya are Muslims; hence are considered invaders who came to terrorize the state of Bangladesh.
By watching this documentary, I have learned that in a political war, only the innocents suffer a great deal. As such, ethnic clashes have been existing for a long time now. Discrimination based on your tribe is one of the most critical contributors to ethnic conflicts. It is almost similar to racism, where people fight and discriminate against others based on their tribe and physical appearance. The documentary also shows that there are religious conflicts in the society that are adverse and disrupt the harmony in the society or community. in most cases, people discriminate against others based on their religious doctrines and faith.
