The closure of schools due to the spread of the new coronavirus across the globe and its uncertainty has led to the need for homeschooling. Various parents have formulated ways to homeschool their students at the elementary school level. The need for homeschooling plans has necessitated research to identify the means of ensuring the learning effectiveness. The following is the outline of the research proposal on a homeschooling curriculum for elementary school.
Statement
Following a structured curriculum according to the elementary school students’ level, the research proposal outlines and promotes the different ways that parents, guardians, and teachers can prepare the different homeschooling plans for the children not attending school. Depending on the various factors that affect the learning in the case of elementary school children being homeschooled, the homeschooling program will be customized and suited to fit the needs of the learners while having in consideration the need for the parents to be present in the program versus their involvement in the “working from home” arrangements with employers. The curriculum will bridge the gap between the parents working from home and the elementary school children that need to be schooled at home. The curriculum can, therefore, be modified at any time to take the needs of the parents or their children as needed. On the side of the educators, the research will propose the tips that educators can make use of to maximize the homeschooling of children, and considering their differences in behavior and special needs for those with disabilities. The proposal will be of benefit to the students that can do well learning different subjects at home.
Rationale
The closure of schools in many countries has had parents doing their best to maintain their children’s education. The research will be centered on the value of homeschooling for the various parents and educators in different settings. According to researchers, homeschooling children has proven to be a viable alternative to attending the now-closed centers of education (Rudnitsky, 2020). The scholars have attributed advantages of homeschooling by pinpointing the form of education to individualize learning for the students and focus the educator’s attention on the learners that do not understand the content being taught (Broom, 2020). Homeschooling children also create their value to the society and adds to their education by allowing them time to visit museums, libraries, among other facilities, and taking part in communal activities. Therefore, the research highlights the importance of homeschooling, particularly during the coronavirus pandemic.
Impact on Education
Homeschooling has various impacts on education for the students at the elementary school level. If the homeschooling model is implemented, the students, parents, and educators are set to have a change regarding learning amid the coronavirus pandemic. The practice will help the students not fall behind the learning, especially for the students that require special education due to the different conditions such as disability. The education offered at home will benefit them by focusing on the individual learners that exhibit difficulties in conventional classrooms. The parents who offer to homeschool to their children have to demonstrate the attainment of particular levels of expertise and experience. The advantages of homeschooling are also evident on the side of the teachers with their enhanced ability to prioritize the students with various needs such as those who have ADHD. Therefore, the twenty-first-century education is set to change during and after the coronavirus pandemic for the students, educators, and parents.
