Poverty and domestic violence have contributed to many multiple negative cases in society. Poverty has led to there being many broken marriages, children running away from their homes, depression, and death. Domestic violence comes in many forms, such as physical abuse, which could be sexual or even assaulting your child, spouse, or even colleague (Goodmark, 2018). Poverty, on the other hand, has deprived many people numerous opportunities and thus has brought about to a high number of people indulging themselves into a group of friends that mislead them.

Over the years, women and girls are the most affected spices when it comes to domestic violence, making the female gender the most vulnerable to domestic violence. Statistics show that one out of every three women in towns and cities across the globe experience abuse, either physically or sexually, at some point in their lives. This abuse is often brought to these women by their husbands, boyfriends, or relatives such as uncles and, in extreme cases, their fathers (Brush, 2011). The state of poverty has led to the rise of women and small girls experiencing any form of violence. It cages a lot of women and girls from marginalized communities, and thus it has led to early marriages among girls or even pregnancy.

Domestic violence is a great threat to many social workers who earn low wages. This is because they are the most likely to endure poor living conditions characterized by poverty. According to Gill et al. (2012), this poverty triggers abuse in their relationships due to frustrations. Over the past few years, extensive research conducted indicates that a high percentage of women who have been abused in any way is very limited to choices and resources, which has made a lot of our women vulnerable to their dreams.

A recently conducted study by researchers Howard et al. (2013) indicated that children are also not spared from the domestic violence that occurs at homes. According to the authors, children who have gone through any kind of violence have had cases of health issues such as post-traumatic stress disorder and especially in school-going children. This makes it hard for them to mingle even with their peers in school or when they meet at social gatherings. Concentration in school work becomes difficult to them, something that explains their poor academic performances while increasing their chances of dropping out of school due to the lack of concentration.

Notably, many of the people who experience domestic violence or casualties face the hardships of their family members by being forced into homelessness and harsh living conditions. A good number of women, particularly in the less developed countries, rely on abusive men for financial support. This makes it hard for them to walk out of their abusive marriage due to the fear of facing poverty once they divorce their abusive spouses. It is even more difficult for women to walk away from marriages that might be violent if there are children involved. Mothers in these countries feel that they cannot take care of their children without the financial support they get from their husbands and thus decide to stick around despite there being violence. An interesting fact that researcher Howard et al. (2013) bring out in their book is that only a third of women in abusive relationships are able to move out of their matrimonial homes to start new lives away from their spouses.

In summary, the information in this document shows the need to sensitize families, and especially the married couples should be sensitized about domestic violence and the negative impact it has on society. More awareness should also be created, as well. Action should be taken against anyone found with the offense, and the public, mostly the social workers, should recognize the problem and the correlation between domestic violence and poverty.
