The decision to change the business model by Roger’s Ridiculous Runs Company should not be a one-person decision and, it should be done in consultation with all employees of the company. Hence, before making any decision, as a director, the use of the participative leadership style is essential in encouraging the employees to give their suggestions on matters on hand. The use of this style of leadership is in line with the employees and environmental contingencies, thus putting into consideration the skills and experiences of the employee, locus of control, the structure of the task as well as team dynamics.
In the case, it is evident that conflict is apparent even in the top-ranking employees possessing skills and experiences in different spheres; hence, the use of participative leadership, in this case, will work the trick. To be able to successfully move the team towards the shorter runs, as a director of the company, I should possess two significant attributes of leadership. They are; Knowledge of the business as well as drive. Knowledge of the industry refers to an understanding of all the components of the new business model. Business knowledge is a total of diverse experiences, skills, and expertise that enable one as a leader to make an effective decision. In addition to the powers possessed, a leader should also know the environment of the business. Also, having inner drive is essential. Internal drive refers to motivation to achieve the desired goals. When a leader has inner drive, even the subordinates are motivated to achieve the organizational goals.
