Personal Code of Ethics Assignment
Preamble
Ethics entails the aspect of ‘right or wrong’ in relation to the moral values of the community or society. Personal ethics consists of individual guidelines on personal life and professional conduct. In my case, personal ethics is result of moral, religious and intellectual upbringing (Schwartz, 2002). There is also the aspect of cultural values and the educational factors. The role of personal ethics is crucial since they guide one on the actions, way of life and relations with others. I have developed strong code of ethics which guide me when dealing with others and communicating. Still, the code of ethics has been vital in my interactions and relations with others. I have gained better understanding dealing with individuals, professionals and my peers. The report in this case entails detailed examination of my personal ethics. There is also summary of the foundation of my ethics in three aspects. The other part is a statement of personal values and provision of conduct. Lastly, there is inclusion of industry of my personal ethics.
Foundations
The moral aspect of ethics is based on the views of a given society about the wrong or the right activities. In my case, my guiding principle of moral ethics is the golden rule. According to golden rule, it is vital for one treat others in the right ways. It is based on the statement ‘do unto to others what you expected to be treated’ (Tsalikis, & Fritzsche, 2013). The principle is vital moral ethic which entails treatment of the others in the right manner and expecting to be treated fairly in the course of dealing with individual. The rule of also based on religious doctrine of treating the people in the right manner and expecting the same treatment. In other words, it focuses on doing the right things at all times.
In my case, the application of the rule is vital since it guides me to handle the individuals in the fairest way. Some of the vital elements of golden rule entails respect to others and working with right code of assumption. There is also the virtue of honesty and integrity. It is hence vital foundation of the morals in the society. In my case, the rule has been beneficial since I have gained the right attitude and mentality when dealing with others.
Societal/Stakeholder
According to societal or stakeholder foundation of the ethics, there is focus on the right ways of dealing with other parties. For instance, in the business setting, it is the duty of the organization to treat employees in the best way. The stakeholder relation entails creation of right image and dealing with the individuals in the best manner. For instance, it is the duty of a given business entity to ensure sound communication and provision of right information. Still, it is the duty of the organization or the society to promote the issues and virtues of respect, humanity and care.
One of the vital stakeholder ethical code of conduct is professionalism. Professionalism is crucial since it focuses on the relations between the employees and the customers. There is also relation among the management and the other stakeholders such as investors and shareholders. The societal view of the ethics hence focuses on truthful information, fairness, professionalism and honesty (Schwartz, 2002). There is also concept of mutual duty of care and promotion of respect.
Professional/Industry Frameworks
Professional ethics entails a set of principles which outlines how individuals or a given group of people should relate with each other while in line of duty. It is hence the code of conduct while in business environment. Professional are vital in shaping the relations of people since they set the rules and regulation of how people should deal with each other. It is also the code of conduct expected while inline of duty (Freeman, Engels, & Altekruse, 2004). For instance, it is the duty of the accountant to ensure all information reported in the financial statements is true and correct.
There is also the concept of taking moral duty of communication. In most cases, the origin of the professional code of ethics entails the law and the regulations of the organization. Some of the vital elements include truthfulness while in line of duty. There is also autonomy and justice. The professional ethics are vital in shaping the right code of relations and ensuring good rapport between the parties. For instance, the relationship between the employer and the employee is based on the industry framework.
Statement of Professional Values
There are several values which guide my way of communication in relation to marketing. The values include professional code of conduct while in communication, truthfulness, honesty, duty of care integrity. The professional code of conduct in marketing entails ensuring all information is done in the right way and at the right time. The aspect of working with others due ensure care is vital. It is vital to develop a positive view of others since is the duty and obligation to ensure that we all work well and attain the right results. There is also consideration of the target audience and the motive of the communication. The other vital aspect is the truthfulness in the marketing communication (Freeman, Engels, & Altekruse, 2004). It is the duty of passing the right information without alteration or change of the details. The goal is to ensure only the right communication is done without misleading individuals.
There is then the concept of honesty while in communication. In marketing, there are cases of passing of passing untrue information with a view of changing the minds of the target population. However, the concept of honesty focuses on the right and correct details. Lack of truthful information is costly for the individuals (Banks, 2003). It is one of the ways to gain positive image and trust among people. People without the concept of honesty tend to loss business relation and hence poor image. It is the duty of my duty to ensure that all information and dealing with other people is done without cases of ill-motives. Then, the aspect of duty of care is crucial as seen below.
I also focus on the concept of duty of care while in course of business communication as well as integrity. The concept of duty of care is to ensure that all information and dealing with other parties is based on moral care. For instance, the promotion of products should be based on true information with cheating of lying to the target audience. It is crucial to ensure all information is kept open and people are not duped (Mcdonald, 2009). Most of the firms have been found to share misleading information while in course of business communication. It is hence vital for the individuals to ensure focus on duty of care and correct the errors associated with communication.
Provisions of Conduct
There are specific codes which guide my professional code of relation and conduct. Some of the elements include respect to others while dealing with them. Respect entails recognition of the individual and other people and treating them with dignity (Schwartz, 2002). In my case, I have been in a good position to show respect to my peers and people close to me. For instance, while at home, I ensure that I relate with others and handle them with care and maturity. I respect individual views and positions while in line of communication and dealings. I also ensure that there is timely communication, clarification of issues such as instruction and right reply to the other parties. The other vital code of respect is to ensure sound management of all duties given and relating with the seniors and juniors in the right manner. The other vital elements include honesty, integrity and duty of care.
The above values have affected my life in several ways. For instance, while in school, I ensure that in communicate with my teachers in the right way. Still, when at home, I relate with others very well. In most cases, I have gained sound relationship skills and hence ability to eliminate mistrust. The other vital element is dealing with professionals. For instance, in the cases of job applications, I tend to address the seniors with all due respect and right code of conduct. Then, there is the issues of the workplace and dealing with employees. The skills are crucial since they ensure that I handle all employees with maturity and care (Mcdonald, 2009). I also know the limits and the boundaries when dealing with others. I have learned that when dealing with peers, it is crucial to address them with right titles and ensure balance of friendship and professionalism.
I have also learned to incorporate the right virtues in the course of decision-making process. The practice of the above ethics and values have led to better consideration in my relationship with others and decision-making process. For instance, during the decision-making process, I have learned that it is vital to collect information and views from the other parties. There is also listening to others and giving them a fair chance to contribute. The golden rule is vital since there is a creation of space for others and elimination of cases of bias (Pearson, 2017). The other vital element entails creation of neutral ground and respect to all other people when dealing with them. I have hence gained sound skills such as giving others a chance to communicate and respect of opinions. I have also gained sound belief that all people should be treated with dignity and care. The concept of respect and golden rule is hence vital.
Industry Analysis
There is a strong relation with my personal ethics and the industry code of ethics. Some of the vital industry code of ethics include fairness and openness. Fairness entails the concept of treating others with highest level of justice. It is the concept of doing the right thing the other party without issues of discrimination. According to the aspect of fairness, it is the duty of the individual to ensure that there is no trace of bias of wrong-doing when dealing with others. The code is crucial since it ensures that there are no cases of abuse of breaking of the law (Freeman, Engels, & Altekruse, 2004). In my personal ethics, I have gained the value of dealing with others in the right way. I also ensure that I offer my best support when dealing with individuals. Fairness is also vital in the workplace. The role of personal ethics is crucial since they guide one of the actions, way of life and relations with others. I have developed strong code of ethics which guide me when dealing with others and communicating. Still, the code of ethics has been vital in my interactions and relations. It entails taking charge of the individual roles and hence equity and elimination of bias. The outcome is strong and positive relations.
There other vital element is the duty of responsibility. Responsibility is the concept of taking the whole autonomy and assumption of the duty of delivery in the designated area of action. It also entails taking full charge of the given roles and activities. In my case, the personal values and code of conduct has been vital in ensuring the I relate well with others. I am able to undertake all my duties such as the class assignments without blaming others. I have also gained the aspect of working with others due ensure mutual responsibility. I have hence developed a positive view of others since it has been my duty and obligation to ensure I work well and attain the right results. The stakeholder ethical code of conduct is professionalism since it focuses on the relations between the employees and the customers. There is also relation among the management and the other stakeholders such as investors and shareholders (Pearson, 2017). I also cooperative and I do not blame others for my own mistakes. Some of the other vital elements which I have gained entails dealing with others in the right ways as seen below.
