Qualitative research approach
The objective of a study is usually the key determinant of which research methodology research will employ. I concur with the colleague that sociologists and anthropologists tend to prefer a qualitative research approach since it seeks to find how specific aspects are the way they are due to its opened ended inquiry strategy (Merriman & Tisdell, 2016). The colleague has outlined the difference and similarities between quantitative and qualitative, which would help identify which approach is appropriate for IT research. This points out purposive sampling in qualitative and random sampling in quantitative, which other colleagues have identified as tools to get answers in each of the respective methods. I agree with the colleague that in the case of installing new IT technology in an organization, the qualitative approach will fit.
