The moral lesson that I learned from the story of Jonah and the big fish, which is also known as the whale, is that a person cannot run away from Almighty God and his plans. God was angry with the people of Nineveh and told Jonah to go warn them against it, “for their great wickedness is come up before me,” However, Jonah did not go to Nineveh as planned but went to Jaffa. God is an omnipresent God that is everywhere and knows whatever his people do. Another thing that stood out to me in the story about Jonah and the whale is that God protects his people even though they have turned against him. Even though Jonah turned away from God, he protected him for three days and nights inside the whale without taking anything. Jonah eventually landed to Nineveh and proclaimed the prophecy. I have learned to humble myself and surrender my wills to GodGod and ever to turn against him.
Some of the anthropological concepts that relate to the story of Jonah and the whale include socialization, obedience, and inferiority of man. In the socialization concept, people of Nineveh were doing activities that were against God’s will, and God was angry with them. However human being socialize, they should not do it the extent that angriest their creator. Jonah did not want to go to Nineveh since he knew they were wicked and would influence him as well. Anthropological aspect of obedience of Jonah comes in when he flees to Jaffa instead of Nineveh. He disobeys God and does not want to proclaim the prophecy of Nineveh. Lastly, human is inferior in the eyes of the Lord. God is more powerful than human beings and can save us in whatever situations.
