Electrical impulses

Electrical impulses are used in carrying general information important in the normal functioning of the brain. However, when alcohol is consumed, it acts as a depressant to the central nervous system where it triggers the normal functioning of the neuron by influencing their work of transmitting electrical impulses which are important in the body.(Khatib, 2019) The inhibitory effect of alcohol on the brain is similar to those from other drugs which causes anesthesia and sedation.

Through the transmission of chemical and electrical signals, neurons can communicate with one another. Since Electrical impulses are not able to jump from a particular neuron to another, these electrical impulses are mainly converted into chemical signals which occur on the synapse connecting two neurons. These chemicals are referred to as neurotransmitters which diffuse between the neurons across the synaptic space and finally bind to the receptors or other specific proteins onto the neuron receiving the impulse. So, when the binding reaction is experienced, a new electrical impulse is triggered to the receiving cell and consequently, communications are enhanced to ensure the normal functioning of the brain. However, alcohol influences a new impulse from being generated.
