Cosmetic animal testing
Cosmetic animal testing is one of the cruel and dangerous practices in the world where companies continue to use animals as the testing ground to provide safe products to their customers. However, the use of animals by companies across the world only violates their life. It also leads to unreliable information about a cosmetic product because species tend to react differently when exposed to similar chemicals. The trend has continued to exist because of the belief that humans are hybrid or more important than any other living thing. Thus, they are justified to use animals for their internal and external consumption. In the sociology of movement, Buraway states that “As social scientists, we have to drop the pretense that we are outside society, and explicitly recognize that we are part of the world we study and have no alternative but to take a stand” (25). The statement should apply when it comes to cosmetics being tested on animals because they are part of the larger society, and their wellbeing ultimately affects society’s wellbeing. It is high time that cosmetic testing on animals should stop and other alternative methods adopted. Cases of cosmetic products being harmful to human skin are still prevalent. This is because of the unreliable results from animals because animals do not suffer from the same ailments that affect humans. So, it does not make sense to continue using cosmetic testing on animals who respond differently to chemicals because this will unintentionally harm both human beings and animals
