Testing cosmetics on animals
Testing cosmetics on animals is a type of animal testing used to test the safety and hypoallergenic properties of products for human use. This process is highly opposed by animal rights activists, mainly because of its harm to the experimental animals. The process has been going on for many centuries since 300 BC. This particular piece of writing tries to show the goodness of cosmetic animal testing and thus asking for support of this social movement.
There are several benefits of this social movement despite its disadvantageous aspect of harming the used animals. Firstly, animals have the most human-related species, which means that they have many things common with human beings in a biological sense. To test for products for humans, animals are, thus, the best. The process helps to improve human health as an essential tool for research. Secondly, the process can be regulated to protect the used animals from mistreatment. As the main issue raised by human rights activists, the claimed harmful effects cosmetic animal testing has on animals can be regulated if not wholly avoided. This social movement has many other advantages in addition to the above mentioned, but most importantly is its ability to improve human health by using assured products. As Michael Burawoy states, contemporary social movements are characterized not only by their economic origins but also by their responses to different forms of dimension of marketization and political expression and consciousness (24). Synchronizing cosmetic animal testing and the use of modern-day technologies can yield better results. I, therefore, think the cosmetic animal testing social movement should be supported.
