Glaspell’s “Trifle” is based on real-life events in Lowa at the turn of the century. Glaspell, the author, had worked as a journalist from 1899-1901 for ‘The Des Moines News.’ As a reporter, she covered the manslaughter’s judgment of Margaret Hossack, a farmer’s wife, in Indianola. She was blamed for killing John, her husband. She stroke him multiple times in the head, utilizing a hatchet around evening time while he slept. Initially, individuals had expected that robbers killed John. Hence, the sheriff’s examination thought of proof proposing that Mrs. Hossack was uncomfortable in her marriage. This was sealed, and she was found guilty of the crime. Margaret Hossack was condemned to life in jail as Glaspell composed the short play in memory of Hossack.
Mr. Wright has not fared well with his wife, as Mrs. Wright is uncomfortable with her marriage. She accepts she can pick up joy and opportunity if the spouse is dead. She was irritated when Wright silences her bird, which was presumably the only thing that gave her happiness. They have lived respectively for a long time with no joy in their family. Mrs. hale, an investigator, finds the bird’s cage uncovering to the reader that Wright has been unpleasant on the bird. Potentially, this is a similar way he has been harsh with his better half in marriage. The singing of the flying creature reminds Mrs. Wright of the melodies they used to sing lovely tunes in the congregation. This is the way she will begin singing when she kills her better half. Mrs. Wright kills her better half to pick up opportunity and bliss in life again following thirty years of mistreatment.
Conclusively, women lose their character in marriage. Mrs. Wright was enamored with wearing lovely clothes that made her look wonderful while she was known as Minnie Foster. This implies Mrs. Wright had been changed into an alternate individual since she got married. The happy, sharp-looking individual was a distant memory. Mrs. Wright depicts this as sad and disappointed in her marriage. This makes her chose the most noticeably terrible choice of murdering her better half to gain her happiness once more.
