My topic is Special Education and Learning Disabilities.
I already know the following about this topic:
Learning disabilities result in poor academic performance in the affected individuals.
It is possible to screen and know learning disabilities, hence paving the way for the necessary individual attention.
Learning difficulties can be addressed through the use of special education teachers.
This is what I want to know about my topic:
the number of individuals affected by learning disabilities, methods used in screening the disabilities, examples of the learning disabilities, and possible interventions.

What I learned when exploring my topic through the social science lens:
About 10% of the individuals within the United States (over 5 million) are struggling with learning disabilities, the common types of the disabilities being; dyslexia, dyscalculia and autism.
Learning disabilities are mainly tested through; intelligence tests, achievement tests, visual-motor integration, as well as language testing.
Learning disabilities can be addressed through various ways such as; medication, traditional therapy, educational and behavioral intervention as well as psychotherapy.

Yes, my questions have been answered by the articles I have read. My concern was mainly on the different types of learning disabilities, how to identify them, and possible intervention methods. Through the articles, I have obtained full answers for my queries.

What I learned when exploring my topic through the history lens:
Historically, leaning disabilities were associated with lack of intelligence. Individuals who had learning were disabilities were said to suffer from idiotism and mental defectiveness.

Individuals with learning disabilities are not readily accepted within communities. Such individuals are turned down by friends and family members. People should understand that it is not the wish of such individuals to be the way they are and accommodate them unconditionally.
