The issues of immigration have been growing to alarming levels over recent years. A division has, however, been growing between Americans who have been holding different opinions concerning the attempts to kick out immigrants. One group of Americans has been for the position that immigration is the source of all the problems affecting America. For example, the issue of unemployment has been slowly taking a position in America, with some people associating the menace to an influx of immigrants. On the other hand, other Americans believe that immigrants have been playing significant roles in making America a better place. Signe Wilkinson presented his position through a cartoon presentation that highlighted the lack of casual labor as one of the most overlooked importance of immigrants.
The political cartoon by Signe Wilkinson brings out the idea of cheap labor for lower-profile jobs that immigrants take without question. The cartoon depicts a picture of people who are probably Americans, and who should be working in high profile jobs, carrying out family chores. The responsibility portrayed in the picture is that of a family that is forced to clean its compound, and the members appear tired. Also, the topic of the picture shows that Americans are complaining about the lack of immigrants to do the jobs that Americans would not take owing to their profile. Furthermore, the sweat drops on the faces of the people in the picture show that the work is heavy and that help is needed. Also, the woman in the picture is shown to be thanking his father for helping in the duties that appear to be overwhelming them. Generally, Wilkinson takes a position that immigration supplies Americans with workers who are willing to take the jobs that other Americans will not be willing to take. Moreover, the cartoon image employs a clever use of pathos, ethos, and ethos.
Artists have a way of using pathos, ethos, and ethos to pass their message to the intended audience effectively. The use of logos, for example, is seen in Wilkinson’s work through the way he presents the reader with the message that America is attempting to kick out all immigrants. When the reader pauses to wonder the message in the image, the topic introduces them to immigration and the availability of workers. Also, Wilkinson ensures that pathos takes a better part of the image’s purpose. For example, the people in the image appear exhausted and sweating. Also, the workers are dressed in official wear, yet they are carrying out casual duties. The use of ethos is used in the way Wilkinson is using the real picture to express his feelings in simple terms. Everyone in America is aware that immigrants provide casual labor.
In sum, the lack of casual labor is associated with strict immigration policies, and Wilkinson presents it through a cartoon image. The image presents the real image of the American struggle to balance the lack of casual labor and keeping immigrants away. Wilkinson uses pathos, ethos, and ethos to present his message.
