Life is a journey. From the first day that one is born into this earth, they start the journey of growth. In life, we are all making steps towards achieving something. We set targets and destinations, and like any other journey, one needs to understand where he or she is coming from and where they are headed to. The direction is significant whenever one is on a journey. Lack of direction is what causes depression and anxiety. If you do not have direction, you do not have a purpose.
Moreover, the lack of a purpose causes someone to wander without anything to do. Direction can only be achieved if you have set goals. It is these goals that define what direction you should take in life and how you should move. They tell you when to act and when not to act. Like a compass guiding every step you take, goals give you a sense of entitlement and desire to accomplish something. They help someone understand and evaluate their actions effectively. For one to be successful in their career, it is paramount to set goals. During this program, I have set three goals that I intend to achieve fully. First, I intend to build a stronger relationship with my fellow students. The same effort will be replicated with my fellow teachers, and lastly, I intend to develop my progress monitoring ability.
Goal statement one
Like soldiers at war, my students are my lifeline. The people I intend to relate to are viable to assist me in many ways. As an aspiring teacher, being a student is a very challenging affair. I find it difficult to relate to my students. However, I have come to learn that relations help build a typical relationship of trust and cooperation. If the relationship between my students and me is a personal, friendly relationship, I expect everything I do to succeed. As founded y many students and people, relations help create a safe environment for expression and learning. Children cannot learn in a room where they are not friendly. They will always be afraid to ask questions or even indicate they are not following whatever is being taught. Based on this, I intend to carry out a swift program of rewards. As a middle school teacher, children are generally attracted to people who give them gifts and play with them. To achieve the goal of forming good relations with my students, I will start playing games with them. Probably start with stimulating and straightforward games like tug of war. Even we can play, hide and seek. All these games are aimed at ensuring we can bond and create good rapport as a team. Gift giving as a type of positive behavior reinforcement is also one of the steps, I can employ in creating a good rapport. Relations can be initiated through gifts. As for young children in middle school, gifts such as sweets are essential in initiating conversations or even building good friendships.
Goal statement two
Creating an excellent relationship with my fellow teachers is on the next of my list. Teachers are like athletes in a team, and you need each other to win. Winning does not only involve having students excel and perform excellently in your subject, but rather entails a joint development of the student—both academic development and social development in character. The student needs to develop academically in all subjects and perform averagely and even become a better individual withy greater moral. To build good relations with my fellow teachers and colleagues in the industry, I believe the safest bet would be to create a teacher’s football club. The club would only compete with the students on a very junior level for fun and ensure the two groups bond. When these two groups can bond, success in the field is imminent and cannot be limited. Games and sports or just activities in general, such as plays and sports, help unite the teachers together and help solve common problems that the children are facing. Also, having good relations as the teaching staff is tantamount to success on the children’s behalf. Like a medical team, the teachers can form a formidable team to assist the children by discussing common problems that are facing specific children and how we can assist them specifically.
Goal statement three
Another personal goal I want to work on is progress monitoring. Students are growing daily. They keep changing form their behavior and their dressing. Even in their classwork, there is always progress. This process can either be positive and negative. Developing an ability to notice progress development in the students is a top goal for me. For me to be able to effectively monitor the progress, having a personal relationship with the students is very good. Therefore, the first step is to know each of them personally and ensure they trust me. Therefore by doing so, I will notice intricate and little details about the students, such as progress in class, because I will know their records personally. This keen attention will ensure that the student’s progress is monitored to ensure positive progress is promoted and supported while negative progress is curtailed and discouraged.
Conclusion
Setting goals help one develop a roadmap and a path as to how they intend to achieve the goals they have set. This helps in the decision-making process because one will know whether their actions bring them closer or farther from their goals. Having a set goal is vital to ensure that one knows what to do and how to do it. As a teacher in middle school, developing friendly relations with the teachers and students and being able to monitor each of my students’ progress is essential in ensuring I succeed in my career.
