Introduction
Cocaine is a drug that has for long slipped the long arms of the law and has skyrocketed over the years. It has now been in the limelight, being highlighted as the most trafficked drug in the world largely in the United States. In Europe, it has acquired the second position drug being abused by the residents but largely targeting the youths. The drug has slowly gained popularity and has been noted by the Drug Abuse Warning Network acquiring fame with insights such as the most mentioned illegal drug. According to research conducted recently, it has been noted that the drug has sent very many people to the hospital, nearly touching the half a million mark annually.
The threat of potency the drug is posing the society at large is alarming, the spread of its effective as that of its fame. However, the most affected people range from the ages of 15 and 35 years making up a total of 1.5 million abusers of the drug. The drug has serious effects when abused for a long time, but the adverse, far and wide claims have fallen deaf years even with the providence of statistics of real life implications. The consequences of abusing the drug have not only been felt in the society but also the economy, individuals who abuse the drug largely want to buy it but do not want to work for them money. A lazy society which does not want to work leads to deteriorating of the economy (Spillane, 2000).
The larger portion of a society is made up of young and energetic youths who would in future be the same society. The youths have not only decided on abusing the drug but are now being affected by the same effects that they are being warned about. The productive age of the society from those that are school going to the one that has already finished learning. However, statistics indicate that the most affected continents with the drug are those of Europe and America being at the forefront of this menace. The population of abuse is growing day in day out finding out that close to 1.5 million in a month are affected is alarming and calls for a greater course of redress.
The rate at which the drug is spread calls for a greater course of action and for a startup informing them of the state could make progress if not achieve the end goal. Cocaine sends about half a million people to the hospital in every year due to its adverse effects and drug addiction. It is also important to make it straight that the drug is affecting the most productive portions of our populations which are students in school overall the productive people in the society. Imminent effects of abusing the drug are among others addiction and critical mental trauma that is as a result of withdrawal. Therefore, the spreading like wild of the drug, its imminent effects on the economy and also the society and misuse and abuse of the drug is what has to do with the call for addressing the issue. Even with stricter laws but loopholes of corrupt officers who permit the drugs to be smuggled it is our responsibility to ensure that we campaign against it and from being abused by our productive portion of the population (Nida, 2016.
The better option of communicating the effect to our society and youths can largely be drug campaign. The channel is believed to be effective because it reaches to very many people in the society and also the world. The social media is another angle that can be used to communicate the important messages to the youths, that is, electronic forms they are more effective and attract a lot of audiences because it is direct and does not depend on a medium. The age that is largely abusing the drug is between 15 and 35 years and is dependent on social media which is very convenient and effective for them. The youth at that age bracket love most of the texting material to the internet and also messaging, therefore, would be the most preferable. Therefore, creating ads can very much be effective in spreading awareness through the issue of abusing Cocaine.
The medium of communication can be considered effective depending on some things. In the social media, the youth with have an opportunity to give their remarks regarding the ads and media campaigns. The media depends on a form of “like” therefore when the youth like the ads we will know that the media is effective together with posting their responses below on questions that might be burning. Technology has affected the way things are done nowadays the spreading of news takes place within minutes no matter the distance. Also, the medium of communication is very cheap requires very little unlike putting up billboards that will not be effective and will cost a fortune for that matter (Weiss, Mirin & Bartel, 1994).
