Heuristic evaluation of a web site
The goal of this assessment is to use your knowledge of heuristic evaluation gained in the learning materials and practice your skills as a usability expert.
In preparation for your assignment, review
Jacob Nielsen, “How to conduct a heuristic evaluation,” available: http://www.useit.com/papers/heuristic/heuristic_evaluation.html
and
Michael D. Levi and Frederick G. Conrad, U.S. Department of Labor, “A heuristic evaluation of World Wide Web prototype,” available at: http://www.bls.gov/osmr/htm_papers/st960160.htm.
For the purpose of this assessment you will need to examine one website and write a report according to the guidelines of heuristic evaluation.
Choose one of the following web sites:
WAM Swim Club
North Shore Swim Club
Consider the intended audience and purpose of the site.
Prepare a list of three potential user’s tasks and examine whether the site supports those tasks.
Identify a set of heuristic principles such as those discussed in the learning materials. Describe those principles and check the site to determine if the site measures up to those principles.
Write your final report documenting your process.
What to submit:
A brief description of the site you chose, the intended audience and purpose of the site.
Three user’s tasks and how well the site supports those tasks.
Set of heuristic principles you have chosen and an examination of how well the site follows that set of heuristic principles.
Check any problems you find against the heuristic principles.
Rate the problems according to severity.
The report should be at least 1000 words long.
