Education is an essential aspect of life. For example, education equips one with the necessary skills essential for taking up jobs, venturing into business, and communicating. Therefore, whether education should be free or not is complicated with arguably unclear answers. Just like any other significant debate, the idea of providing free higher education has both pros and cons. On one side, learning should be free to provide equal opportunities to all individuals.

On the other hand, free education is assumed to result in an economic crisis in a country. As much as education has proven to be a fundamental aspect of life, it has become costly such that talented kids from humble backgrounds do not get the opportunity to study. The high prices make it difficult for people from lower economic backgrounds to better their lives through increased knowledge and skills. For this reason, it remains one of the most expensive needs in the United States. On this basis, education should be provided free of charge because it is a fundamental human right. It is also an essential tool for surviving, and providing it free of charge would reduce the burden of student debt.

Moreover, the provision of free education would provide better economic benefits for the country. Notably, free education would not only benefit individuals who benefit from it but the nation at large. For instance, higher education is a critical economic advancement tool. If more youths get the chance to join college, it would likely reduce the unemployment rate by a great deal. As a result, if more people are employed, there would be fewer people in need of governmental assistance (Hanif and Noman, 2016). Employment helps workers gain wages, which enhances their quality of life and prosperity hence reduce the gap between poor and rich. Reducing the gap between the rich and poor leads to an increase in economic development.
