Field Note 6
In this text, the main focus in this week will be to analyze functional assessments based on the podcast and Relias modules. The importance of understanding various types of functional assessments is to be able to utilize them properly and determine the role of behaviors. It is essential to be in a position to differentiate between form and topography of behavior because, at times, they do not determine the function. However, it is essential to know that every situation has its origin, and thus the outcomes will determine why the behavior is being sustained.
There are different methods used to determine the functions of behaviors highlighted in chapter 24 of applied behavior analysis and chapter 10 of behavior analysis for lasting change. These chapters provide essential information on functional analysis and experimental models, detailed and related assessments. However, an assumption is made concerning the function after evaluating the doing and settings of the occurrence. The hypothesis is then measured using the functional analysis in which different sections of the synopsis are controlled analytically, and the information is recorded. The importance of the analysis is that it provides clearness of sustaining a supporter of the problem behavior or decides a new FBA, which may be needed to reassess the behavior.
Moreover, the information assists in coming up with intervention programs aimed to change the trait and also allow hindrance to manipulation of the future generation. Also, the information judges whether the multiple functions exist to generate effective intervention, possibly with many constituents to target every behavior. Differences within the functional assessment are explained, and also latency analysis is discussed in the Relias module. Practical assessment enhances the proper production of the intervention scheme to reinforce the information that was collected. Based on call and Jessel, the latency FBA is mostly used in intensity problem behavior and when it needs an environment to be reversed.
Besides, this type of analysis allows less access to the support in which the problem trait is being sustained, especially in the case of self-injurious problems. In conclusion, it is essential to note the merits and demerits of these assessments’ procedures. It is also necessary to determine the most beneficial form for every person and their behavior needs.
