Human Security Challenges in Venezuela

Human security is a strategy that widens citizens’ safety of a given state within the territory of the nation. The focus is primarily directed to the individuals in the way they interact economically and socially to ensure the state’s safety. Human beings focus on ensuring that security is provided, although there are several diversions from the primary goal. For example, the orthodox nature of security brings the idea of focusing on the state rather than the electorate (Odutayo, 2016). Despite the diversion, it may be challenging to replace human security with any other human activity. Hence the relevant authorities ensure that there is a complementary and well-developed strategy for the guarding process. Considering this, Venezuela is facing several challenges in maintaining human security. The study shows that Venezuela is having a human rights crisis, which makes the nation violate the citizens (Hama, 2017). Hence, social security has been deteriorating daily, making this severe challenge.

Human security challenges in Venezuela primarily involve violations of human rights with several incidences indicating the insecurity (Solar, 2019). Moreover, there are arbitrary murders that are closely linked with the security forces in the nation. The people in power tend to torture citizens with several cases of forced disappearances and arbitrary detentions. The freedom of expression is also facing a challenge as individuals cannot express their views without being charged in a court of law.  Additionally, social security is often questioned as lawmakers tend to concentrate on their political security instead of protecting the citizens. Hence, this raises several questions regarding the capability of the state to provide adequate security in line with human security.
