Diversity consciousness

Diversity consciousness means being able to recognize and adopt diversity in the workplace. It involves understanding and acknowledging the interdependence of humanity, natural environments, and culture. It also the act of respecting the qualities and experiences if others and building across differences to work together to achieve success. Diversity consciousness has revealed quite well in the movie The Banker, as described in this paper.

The movie the banker is an American movie that portrays the plight of black America in acquiring capital for investments. Bernard Garret, a main character in the film, has a dream to better the social lives of his people in Texas by lending them investment loans. He partners with white people and a fellow black American to achieve this dream. However, they land in the authority’s hands and are found guilty for hiding their identity and for misappropriation of bank funds. However, the two entrepreneurs had plans for their life after prison; thus, their partnership was a success.

Bernard acknowledges the diversity between the lives of black Americans and white Americans. He knows and accepts that he cannot own an estate lived only by a white tenant. He then approaches the Irish investor who helps people make money and end the relationship after the deal was done. They buy real estate using the white guy’s identity, but all goes lose when the Irish man passes away, and the wife takes over his business. However, Bernard does not give but, but becomes more ambitious.

Garret is willing to work with white people even after he struggles with the Irish man’s wife. He approaches his white worker, a friend of his cousin, to his plans of buying a bank. Garret acknowledges the advantages a white man has over him. He hires Steiner to assume his business identity so that they buy banks that would lend money to his people in Texas. He sees the need to eliminate the differences between the two races by giving equal rights and opportunities to all citizens. He stands by his philosophy to the points where he accepts going to prison to account for his mistakes. This challenges the law, and amendments are made regarding racial segregation.

Joe is a famous entrepreneur who has taken over a real estate business from his mother. He accepts that one has to learn the ways of the white race to do business successfully. He teaches Steiner how to play golf, eat like rich whites, and their ways of doing business. He does not discriminate against him because he is not rich. Joe is an open-minded investor. He accepts Bernard’s deals besides not knowing his background because he sees his entrepreneurial potential. He also has other white friends who help him thrive in the world of business. His diversity conscious leads to their success, even after prison
