The Future of Work
Question One
Multiple career changes and repetitive jobs characterize the future of work. This can be demonstrated as follows the world evolves in terms of technology, among other factors, and such occurrences have brought about a profound change in careers, including the pursuit of newly introduced courses to be competent and up to date with current business requirements others. In some job scenarios, the tasks performed are repetitive such that over time technology through Artificial Intelligence has been put to use effectively, reducing the need for human labor.
Question Two
The types of jobs to be automated include manufacturing jobs, banking services like bank tellers, quality control, and customer service. Jobs resistant to automation include managerial or executive positions, auditing, and human resource management. Such jobs are resistant to automation because such jobs require human-like features like an opinion in an audit, accountability for those in management, someone to code for the case of software developers. Just as IT enthusiasts usually say, technology is dynamic and a moving target, which means that it always develops to efficiently cater to our needs. Advances in the technological field would mean that there will be less human labor in labor-intensive areas, which are usually the lower-ranked jobs. Most of the human personnel retained would be to do routine jobs, provide oversight functions over activities, and maintain the machines’ regular maintenance.
Question Three
Career services are an integral part of most tertiary learning institutions where prospective graduates are guided on various matters concerning careers. This office does more than just offer career planning resources. As is the norm nowadays, it is very hard for a fresh graduate to get a job, and as a result, the job absorption rate is very low. Career services offer various services, including job interview prepping, internship opportunities, and networking opportunities through partnerships with various employers, which prove beneficial to students. In some cases, they even provide interactive sessions where students are aware of entrepreneurial opportunities rather than traditional job opportunities. All in all, career services offer more than just career planning resources; hence the statement was false.
Question Four
In any career, you’re never alone for most parts; hence self-awareness can go a long way to ensure a successful career. Through such awareness, an individual can learn about himself and learn about other’s perceptions about them, among other things. Through self-awareness, one can work better with colleagues and be able to handle situations better when they arise in a workroom setup. It also facilitates personal learning of oneself, most notably on one’s strengths and weaknesses (Ardelt & Grunwald, 2018). This would help an individual capitalize on their strong areas in the career and improve in their weak areas to have a good balance in the career. Self-awareness helps an individual understand other people’s perception of them and how they see them. In turn, this would help the individual maintain a positive image to avoid ruining their reputation in the career. Once you understand yourself fully, then and only then can you understand people better and handle their habits or traits or respond to certain scenarios if faced with them.
Question Five
It is normal to feel stronger in some areas than others. Naturally, we cannot be perfect at everything, and as is the usual human habit, we tend to focus on our strengths rather than fix or improve our weaknesses. For different individuals, certain skills are second nature to them compared to others, and that is why it is normal to feel stronger in some skills than others.
Question Six
Organizing one’s time effectively, thinking creatively, openness, and adaptability to new technology and asking good questions while using data effectively.
Question Seven
Initiative means being able to take charge and performing or discharging various functions without waiting for instructions. The statement is false that initiative means to act when asked to.
Question Eight
Self-awareness is one’s knowledge of their character and behavior. If compared to a business entity, self-awareness can be directly referenced to the famous SWOT analysis, a matrix used by entities to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. As an individual, self-awareness makes you conscious about one and your actions or character traits. Therefore, this awareness brings into the limelight your strengths and weaknesses and, to some extent, may help identify new opportunities along the career path. All the identified strengths and limitations help the individual perform better in their career path by improving their weakness and capitalizing on their strengths, thereby making the individual performances in the most optimal conditions possible.
Question Nine
In most workplaces, if not all workplaces, there will always be more than one employee. The question becomes how one can be able to work and cooperate with others in a work environment? Communication is a key element in a work environment because of the following reasons human beings are more of social beings rather than antisocial; hence communication is important for socialization among workmates. The nature of most workplaces is such that there is interdependency between departments, individuals, and various offices in a firm (Genç, 2017). For such structures to function, then communication is essential. Communication, as a result, increases productivity in a workplace in the following ways the fast performance of work assigned, creation of a conducive work environment which motivates employees to be more productive, directives from those charged with managerial responsibilities are well implemented and performed at the lower levels and formation of interpersonal relationships which can strengthen the bonds of employees in a department or a region.
Question Ten
Agility is the ability to move quickly or react to situations rather timidly. There are different dynamics to it in a workplace, including emerging issues, the evolution of technology, among other matters. All these different factors require someone agile. In this case, the following are benefits of agility and an agile employee will be able to accept change and not be rigid for example with the introduction of a new system in an organization, agile minds are willing and ready to learn something new each day which in turn helps refine an employee’s skill set which can prove valuable to a business. The agile employee can listen to others and get a perspective from others rather than themselves, which fosters a good working environment for the organization in general, willingness to be trained on new methods to improve service delivery in an organization, among others.
