Allegations of Improper Sexual Engagements Against Intel CEO Brian Krzanich

Inappropriate conduct and the marginalization of women in workplaces have portrayed relationships in the workplace in a new way. Romantic or sexual intentions can be damaging in the workplace, particularly if they can executive and a junior employee. The passionate affair between Brian Krzanich, the Intel CEO, and his subordinate, was consensual, but the consequences were not only immediate but also decisive.

Allegations

Intel CEO Brian Krzanich was accused of having engaged in a past consensual relationship with an employee of the company. Subsequently, he allegedly violated the policies of the company on non-fraternization. It applies to every manager with no exception. Other accusations entailed failure to uphold the values of the company and abide by the code of conduct set by the company.

Evidence that was made Public

Inappropriate behavior was evidence that Intel Company CEO Krzanich was involved in an office romance with a junior member of staff. Videos of the two embracing and kissing in the office were available. Additionally, emails exchanged between the two in the office constituted evidence of their love affair in the office. Further revelations manifested that Krzanich had a consensual relationship with the employee he treated with favoritism at the workplace. The employee’s identity was not made public, and neither was the period when the relationship took place.

Action that the company executive took in Response

Upon receiving information that Krzanich had involved himself in the relationship, Intel embarked on an internal probe. The company found out that the CEO had indeed committed the offense, and when he offered to resign, the company’s board of management accepted it (Zillman, 2018). The company then named Robert Swan, its chief financial officer, to assume the role of Chief Executive Officer on an interim basis. At the same time, it sought to recruit a permanent chief executive.

Justification of the Outcome

I believe the outcome was justified forb several reasons. First, Intel company did not make a decision based on the allegations they received, but they sought to dig into the claims made against their CEO before passing judgment on the matter. Secondly, they did not favor their Chief Executive Officer based on his high-ranking position and track record in steering the company in a wide-ranging strategic journey beyond its dominance in the telecommunication sector. Justice was served as Krzanich was punished based on the company’s policy that applies to all other managers. Moreover, his choice to resign from the position he held in the company as the Chief executive officer is proof enough that he committed the offense. Therefore, the position taken by the board of Intel company is merited (Lawrence & Weber, 2014). The outcome is a justification that Intel had joined other corporations employing stiffer measures on romantic affairs in the office in which executives are involved instead of just discouraging them.

Appropriateness of the Due Process Followed

Due process was followed in the manner in which the board of directors of Intel company handled the allegations of sexual misconduct leveled against their Chief Executive Officer. First, they subjected the accusations to an independent investigation, which helped them determine the claims’ truthfulness. After confirming that the allegations were true, the company’s board of management sat to consider the issue based on its policy on the conduct of workers. The resignation by Krzanich was endorsed as evidence that he had acted against Intel’s code of conduct for sexual relations among its staff. According to the corporate ethical regulations, the process followed was appropriate (Lawrence & Weber, 2014). Therefore, the use of evidence validated the procedure that the company adopted.

Conclusion

Intel’s Chief Executive Officer Brian Krzanich involved himself in a romantic relationship with a junior employee in the company, which had devastating effects on him. He was guilty of violating the company’s policy on the code of conduct, and he was obliged to resign from his position. The company replaced him after investigating the reported claims and confirmed them to be true.
