Meet A Process Engineer
Engineer Janet Baumann is a process engineer working for Eastman Chemical Company. After college, Baumann started as a laboratory technician working for Kerr-McGee Chemical in testing for titanium application in the firm’s laboratory. At that time, Kerr-McGee Chemical was a start-up company dealing with secondary batteries designed to provide power backup for telecom infrastructures (Love, 2020). Baumann declares her pride in being a process engineer for its creativity, voicing that it gives young people lots of opportunities to develop diverse sets of skills.
The most inspiring aspect of Baumann’s story is based on the fact that process engineers have unlimited opportunities to work in various fields in the contemporary environment. I feel motivated because process engineers are not limited by their profession to excel in diverse industries (Love, 2020). I find this captivating because it empowers young graduates to optimize their imagination and digital skills to enhance their engineering contributions. This may provide intrinsic motivation to process engineers seeking to use their skills to better human civilization. Another source of inspiration in Baumann’s story is based on her ability to employ her engineering skills to protect the environment and improve the wellbeing of human lives.
Unfortunately, Baumann expresses her disappointment with the organizational environment, limiting an individual’s creativity and liberty to become innovative (Love, 2020). It might be disappointing for a person to come with an idea only to be rejected by other team members. I feel it would be potent for companies to support process engineers with freedom of innovations by supporting their independence and innovating.
