The Federal Aviation Administration ( FAA) has various guidance equipment and material that highlight functional requirements, performance goals as well as design objectives. According to FAA SMS, key components of SMS include Safety Policy, Safety Risk management, Safety Assurance, and Safety Promotion (Stolzer, 2017). As per the FAA’s Implementation Guide, an implementation plan is made to seal the gaps within the SMS framework. The gaps consist of those components within the SMS plan that have not met the objectives and stands of SMS implementation. The FAA’s SMS Implementation guide has five key steps of the implementation process that are outlined as follows:
SMS Framework
SMS Assurance Guide
SMS Implementation Guide
Gap Analysis Processes and Tools
Assessment Tools
The FAA additionally outlines the guidance and tools of the SMS procedures in the AVS guidance ( VS 8000.367, SMS program office guidance ( (AC) 120-92) and the FAA guidance ( VS 8000.1).
Hi Angela,
Great work in identifying some of the tools that FAa uses to guide the SMS implementation plans and tools. I agree with the proposals you have made that the implantation process can be broken down in the five-mentioned steps.
