MENTAL HEALTH

Behavioral activation therapy for depression in individuals with non-communicable diseases

Mental health, basically depression, occurs mostly in individuals that suffer from non-communicable conditions including diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and serious respiratory diseases. The relationship between depression and non-communicable conditions mainly affects health practices, medication compliance, and standard of life. The effects of depression are linked with strange results for both conditions. Behavioral activation is rarely applied for the management of depression among older populations. However, behavior activation is greatly used as a treatment for depression among adults.  The information was found in the Cochrane database from mental health topics.

Mental health policies have a unique approach to solving health issues. The policy argues that people need to live the lives they want, and they require every support to get there. Depression recovery is found on the principle that individuals can assume helpful roles in society despite mental health challenges (Ruggiero, 2018). Previously the treatment of people with mental health problems was poorly run hence not protecting the vulnerable population.

The mental health issue is addressed by the legal institutions formed by the government. This is from their promise to give a quality health care system to mental health patients as a general well-being component. The system put in place involves developing healthcare services to all patients, immediate identity, and helping individuals at high risk. Moreover, there is the introduction of integrated care, services, and support for non-communicable diseases, with recovery as the main objective.

World Health Organization health department experts have formulated three essential recommendations for developing policy and strategic plans to implement behavioral activation as treatment of depression among non-communicable disease patients. My position on this topic is that there is no sufficient evidence to conclude the efficiency and application of behavioral activation to treat depression in individuals with non-communicable ailments. Behavioral activation is only an alternative to other treatments for depression.
