Gender Issue

Even though we acquire culture by default, civilization has brought about a diminish to some of the practices. As people get literate, they view some of the practices as harmful to human life. Others tend to be obsolete. Another factor that has brought deviation from our culture is the intermarriage. Long ago intermarriage was discouraged for reasons that promote retention and continuity of the culture. Contrary to this view, it is said that beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. Men saw potential wives and ladies saw potential husbands in lands so far from where they grew leading to intermarriage. The old men were right- mixing of cultures led to having a drop down some of the practices.

Civilization brought a revolution of how things work making our daily routine practices change. Our lives used to circle going to hunt and farm so that we can get our daily needs. Clothing was not something considered very important for men as long as you have hidden the ‘delicates.’ For the ladies covering was important. Life now revolves around going to work in offices and meetings. This issue means that our usual past ways needed to be removed.

The current mainstream culture is the culture of the current world. This is the culture that majority of the population view it as a norm. The way the current mainstream culture views things is different from the formulation of our actual cultural practices (Wong, & Csikszentmihalyi p.320). The effect of civilization is so evident in the current mainstream culture that a huge gap in deviation is seen. One major factor is gender. The perception of gender is a new thing.

Some few years ago you would ask a person of the word transgender, and the response would be confusing since it was not a common thing. Now it is a trend. There are no toilets for transgender people. People try to change their sex. The societies advocating for them are on the streets and courts daily to make sure they are recognized. For sure it is not anyone’s fault to be the way they are, and it does not make them any less human. Having to continue with the life process without making an issue over your state is something to consider. The first step of progress is acceptance. For the current mainstream culture, the issue of changing sex should not even be a thought.

Culture affects people lives in diverse ways. One thing that culture influences is behavior (Dolan, p.102). Our behavior plays a pivotal life in how we associate and do things. It so evident that different people have different reactions to stimuli. The way people need to be addressed and the way they address you depends on their upbringing. An example of a culture is one which does not allow an old man to greet women. It is only accepted for women to greet the old man. In this day, try that, and your hands will gaze at the unbelief of not having been greeted. This has affected gender in the sense that women were considered to be inferior. At this current world, equality has grown to the extent that such activities are obsolete. The basis of this culture dwelt on respect. The current culture got this wrong as the level of respect has submerged.

According to culture, it is viewed that some of the jobs belonged to men while others belonged to women. In this modern world, the system of allocation of duties is dismantled as all gender is considered equal. One slogan used is ‘what a man can do a woman can do better.’ Finding a woman building a house was like looking for a black cat in a coal mine. These days the inverse is growing at an exponential rate, and also, there are programs designed to encourage and make sure it is achieved.

An older adult was once asked how she about the state of morality is. The answer to such a question can be made by having something to compare it. She gave not only a straight answer but also an elaborate and detailed explanation. She talked of the days she was young and how they were taught of the required way of a dressing having made an emphasis on the rottenness of women. From the time she was young, she stuck on those ways to date. The teachings became her principles. The trend of the world at the moment is on a level that women compete on who shows their body the most. This has led to nakedness even in public areas. Our world got this wrong since we did not get the importance of morality.

These outdated views on gender have led to various effects on the lives of people. As we dwell on trends and gender equality, we are not seeing beyond the curtain where things are going amiss due to not staying in our line of duty. The reason why culture preexisted is to positionally place each one of us in their line of duty (Mills p.24). Now trends are deceiving us that we can interchange duties not knowing that old is gold. One main effect is the rise of immorality. This has grown until it is our daily headline. Another one is children getting spoilt quickly. Mothers are never there to provide the correct upbringing for their kids; thus nanny’s of unknown dissent are handed over the responsibility.

The government should ensure that all people are protected and are under the law, so that gender discrimination does not happen. When this is done, people should be encouraged to take their roles in the continuity of the life cycle (Klein et al. p.45). Policies should be enrolled to the people requiring special care. This would bring people together since there will be no need to cause a spur if all your needs are catered.

In conclusion, the current mainstream culture should take note of past cultural practices and do a review. It should be noted down that all things are put in place for a specific purpose and reason. Getting rid of a system and coming up with trends is not a solution. Gender equality is essential, and any form of biased should be terminated with immediate effect. We should always enhance the need of staying together recognizing that we both have weaknesses and strengths. Staying together would bring us to equilibrium. Also, it is essential to be principled. The trends of the current world should not drive us but instead, have a strong principle according to the knowledge of what is wrong and right.
