Global Poverty
World Bank states that Global poverty is the number of people who live less than $1.90 in a single day. A large percentage of people in the world fall within this bracket, and whenever disaster strikes, the poor suffer the most. Take, for example, this pandemic, COVID-19, which has had a significant impact on the sparse population, and they are experiencing. A good number have lost their jobs and not able to make ends meet every day. Some sleep hungry with one meal a day, and if they get lucky, they can have two meals. But the major questions are, “why are the rich becoming richer and the poor becoming even poorer?” “How can the gap between the poor and rich be reduced? How can people be elevated from this bracket of being poor?” The poor deserve a good life too. They need to be supported and showed the way forward and how they can make ends meet and have a pleasant experience.
Global poverty will continue being a challenge until when some basic amenities are provided to the poor. One of the things that can change the level of poverty in the world is when the governments of various states will start giving access to education to youths and children. Not only providing access to education but also ensuring that it is quality education that can empower them. A large number remains poor because they can’t read and write, which makes them vulnerable to the learned who can take advantage of them. Education opens one’s understanding of things and makes them understand things from a better point or a vantage point.
The other thing that contributes to Global poverty is the inequality portrayed by those in higher ranks or ‘the rich.’ Whenever there is a dispute between the rich and the poor and the matter taken to court, the unfortunate end up losing the cases, even though the poor had some circumstantial evidence and proof, the situation is always ruled in favor of the rich. Justice should be served at equal measure so that everyone feels a part of the society and not looked down upon. The poor even risk losing their homes or even the land that they are living on. Some government officials who are somewhat corrupt use money as a means of getting what they want. As a result, the poor cannot seek justice and therefore resort to anger, which causes more harm than good. Justice should be served where due without favoring anyone.
The third thing is access to livelihoods or jobs. If there is no means of getting a job or money, there definitely will be levels of poverty. In the society of now, getting a job is not an easy task. Developing countries majorly face this problem. The overexploitation of other resources has made it even difficult for people and has tremendously increased the pressure in society. Jobs that are not stable can render a family miserable.
The number of people affected by this poverty can be eradicated. Every day a step should be made to ensure that the numbers are reducing and not going up. It is high time the society starts to treat people equally, provide the necessary support, and give the required justice without fear or favor. Let’s us help tone another to eradicate the levels of poverty in the world.
