Change Resistance
Change resistance is inherent and cannot be avoided in the organization and even at an individual level. There are different reasons why change occurs and the consequences of it, depending on the approach that is used towards it. Change can be of benefits to the organization or an individual or can be of adverse change.
An instance where I experienced change was transitioning from senior school to colleen. It was one of the hardest times, especially when my mother told me that I was going to move to a college outside my state. This meant moving away from all the memories that I had created, moving away from my friend and also from the family. A senior high school was full of fun around friends, doing all the fun activities over the holiday with my peers. Some of the causes of resistance to change includes low tolerance of uncertainty and attachment to cultures in the previous setting (Palmer et al., 2017). The thought of moving to a new environment with totally new people I do not know was frightening. It was so uncertain how life was going to be. Education at college also was more in-depth than what I have been doing in high school.
Despite the resistance, I finally had to agree and move to college. My parents did not need to persuade me that much. They only motivated e that the discomfort will go away soon when I get sent to the new environment. Besides, I would make new friends, and life would be back to normal. I could have minimized the resistance to change if I joined the same college with some of my friends from the previous high school. This way, we could have still had some memories together and continue with what we used to do in high school. However, I eventually had accepted and moved to a new environment with the hope that things were going to be better. Therefore, resistance to change is genuine and happens to everyone both at individual and organization levels.
